Unwired and Cleartext announce anti-spyware campaign

Announcement posted by Cleartext Pty Ltd 02 Sep 2005

Cleartext Pty Ltd, a leading provider of secure email and instant messaging solutions, today announced that it has combined forces with wireless broadband carrier, Unwired Australia to provide Unwired customers with defences against spyware and other internet-borne threats.
As part of the IIA's National Anti-spyware Campaign, and in connection with the Federal Governments anti-spyware activities, Cleartext and Unwired are providing free trials and discounted versions of the newly released, Australian developed, Online Armor to Unwired customers. Online Armor is a revolutionary product that protects your computer from spyware, trojan horses and other dangerous internet programs.
Unwired CEO, David Spence said, Unwired already offers a high level of internet security and with this agreement we hope to encourage customers to be even more aware of the dangers of online threats, including Spyware. We are pleased to be working with the IIA and Cleartext on this initiative.
Unwired already offers free anti-virus and anti-spam on all its email accounts including basic accounts. This adds to a number of other features with Unwireds email service including 100MB of capacity, access to mailboxes via GPRS phones and advanced calendar and meeting scheduling capabilities.
Cleartext Managing Director, David Banes said, Spyware has evolved from a nuisance to an out-right threat to the secure use of high-speed Internet connections. As broadband customers deserve the right to use the Internet without the worries of identity theft or fraud by malicious programs, Online Armor can provide a much higher level of confidence. Due to the behavioural-based technology, new and unknown threats are also protected against, without waiting for signature updates.
The Internet Industry Association (IIA) believes that over seven out of 10 computers connected to the Internet in Australia have some form of spyware installed.
Spyware is a broad term which is used to describe a range of computer software from programs that track your web surfing habits to malicious programs which can covertly gather passwords and enable internet banking fraud.
Peter Coroneos, Chief Executive of the IIA said, "We are concerned that many internet users do not know they have spyware on their computers. Indeed, one of the characteristics of spyware is the fact that it is installed without your knowledge or consent. It therefore violates your privacy and can be used to steal your personal information. Without the proper tools, spyware can be very hard to remove and you can often not be certain it has been entirely eliminated. Our campaign is designed to raise awareness, educate users about the problem and direct them to solutions that will protect them."
Normally priced at an RRP $59.95 inc GST Cleartext is offering Online Armor to Unwired customers a discounted price of $45.95 inc GST. Online Armor trialware and software is available from links on the Unwired website.

About Online-Armor
Online Armor is designed and developed by Tall Emu, a Sydney based developer of software and IT outsourcing services. Online Armor is the most powerful and easy to use solution for protecting your PC, your Privacy, and your Identity. Most popular security software programs in use today only identify and protect against known threats, or signatures. This means that frequently updating your security software and regularly running new scans is a requirement to obtain some level of protection. However, this also means that until a new threat is identified by your security software manufacturer, and a "vaccine" is eventually written and made available in a software update, your computer, your privacy, and your identity are vulnerable.
