Community event in Adelaide planned for August 8

Credit Union SA is partnering with the Customer Owned Banking Association to host a free community event in Hindmarsh Square on Thursday 8th August to let South Australians register their support for an urgent review of the Nation’s banking system.

CEO Grant Strawbridge said it was important for consumers to understand how the current system inhibits competition and unite as a collective voice to advocate for a level playing field.

“Credit Union SA shares the community’s frustration about the shortcomings of the current system, and ultimately it is the consumer that is left disadvantaged and often doesn’t know that is the case,” Mr Strawbridge said.

“People have a right to know that they are missing out on the benefits that come with a competitive market and we urge them to come together as a united voice and call on Federal politicians to establish a fairer banking system for all,” he said.

“This event provides opportunity for people to learn more about the campaign, how they are disadvantaged, and register their protest by signing a national petition that calls for sensible reforms that deliver tangible benefits to consumers.”

The Adelaide event follows a series of similar events held across the country, including New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and the ACT – with more than 3,500 people registering their support.

People are invited to attend the Hindmarsh Square event where they can learn more about the campaign and enjoy a free BBQ breakfast on Thursday 8th August from 7am-9.30am or can visit www.balancebanking.com.au.

As South Australia’s third largest credit union, Credit Union SA has a total of seven branches, over $800 million in assets and more than 50,000 members.
