Brisbane Mums named finalist in National Competition

Brisbane based business owners and mums; Natrice Grosvenor and Debbie Stahmer want to change the way women shop for their needs and their children’s needs. Together they have launched a niche online marketplace specialising in the needs of babies, children and women.

The growth of the business in such a short space of time has seen the pair awarded as 1 of 5 finalists in the “Practical Parenting Mumpreneur 2013” awards. The site launched in October 2012 and within three months found themselves being nominated for a ‘Thumbs up’ for “The Cool Company Awards”, in the Anthill Community 2012” for entrepreneurs, business builders and innovators.

“We are certainly honoured to be selected from a talented group of women in business around Australia to be one of 5 finalists in the 2013 Practical Parenting Mumpreneur of the Year Award” says Grosvenor. “We would all be deserving winners, after all we’re all mother's, juggling life, business and babies”

“It takes a lot of hard work, long and odd hours, sacrifices of your own personal time, but the reward of seeing our Community grow is certainly worth the time.” Says Stahmer.  “To receive this award would be a lovely recognition of all the hard work that has gone into bringing Marli and Mo Online Marketplace to life.”

It all started with a cracking idea (over a coffee and cake of course) by two women who had spent years collecting unique objects from markets and quirky little stores.  Natrice Grosvenor and Debbie Stahmer are both creative souls with an entrepreneurial streak. After both having children, their desire to create a flexible career around their families was the catalyst to taking a leap of faith in starting the business. Grosvenor comes from an 11-year corporate marketing career whilst Stahmer has an extensive Creative Designer background and print media.

The business model comprises individual shops showcasing their goods, all in one convenient, safe and easy to find location that is open 24/7.  It connects well-known, undiscovered and up-and-coming labels to the Australian public.  Since its launch on October 15th 2012 it has grown to over 100 sellers in only 9 months with the community growing daily. The business model also supports other self-employed men and women by offering them a risk-free platform to grow their brand and business.

Since launching, Marli and Mo have also released a quarterly publication “Anything but Ordinary” an online lifestyle magazine and an extension of Marli and Mo marketplace.

Grosvenor says:  “My love for my children, my passion of handmade and supporting local led me on this journey. I have a commitment to helping the growth of our selling and buying community and how we can connect the two. We want others out there to support Australian businesses and keep our dollars local. The Marli and Mo marketplace is continually evolving as we discover even more, unique, innovative products and design talent daily.

We would love your support by voting for us in the Practical Parenting Mumpreneur 2013 Awards. By winning this award, we are able to give back to our community to grow.
