Announcing Workshops for QLD ICT Professionals to promote their value effectively in the marketplace

Announcement posted by Adaps Consulting 16 Sep 2013

Adaps Consulting and the itSMF Australia (IT Service Management Forum) today announced they are holding two workshops for ICT professionals in Brisbane to help them better understand, refine and promote their unique skills in the marketplace.

In light of a number of major restructures throughout public and private IT organisations across Queensland and in response to requests from IT professionals in the local area, the itSMF were looking for ways to help their members with promoting their value and furthering their careers in the industry.

The Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) is seen as an excellent way to help ICT professionals position their skills in a compelling and impartial way.  Australia is the fastest growing SFIA marketplace globally, with government organisations and corporates adopting the framework and embedding it into their HR systems.   A useful video on SFIA can be found at www.sfia-alliance.org

The alignment of skills to roles in the IT Marketplace has never been so important.  “We are constantly being told there is a skills shortage, yet people with excellent capabilities and years of experience are overlooked for positions they could easily fulfil”, said Peter Marshall, Queensland State Branch Chair of itSMF.

Simon Roller, Managing Director of Adaps Consulting said “the challenge faced is that, without a process and a measurable framework, people are hired based on their negotiation skills rather than their IT skills.  SFIA is about to change the way future employers acquire skills, forming the foundation of a skills management supply chain.”

In an effort to increase awareness of SFIA and to assist IT Professionals in Queensland better present their value, Adaps Consulting is offering their services free of charge to itSMF and further, parent company Adaps IT Recruitment are sponsoring 60 SFIA Self Assessments for attendees to help them better identify and validate their skills.

“For ICT professionals looking for their next role, this is a unique opportunity to show attendees how SFIA can assist in describing skills and articulating their value to marketplace that is both local and global and growing by the day”, said Peter Marshall.   “The initiative gives attendees the ability to be able to effectively communicate their skills, based on an independent validation that is not subjected to bias.”

The two half-day workshops, facilitated by Adaps Consulting’s Managing Director, Simon Roller, who is a SFIA Accredited Consultant and SFIA Council member, will be offered free to itSMF members, and registration will shortly be available through the member website www.itsmf.org.au.
