VDSL Modem Drives Data Rates Up To 10 MBPS

Announcement posted by Paclink 26 Feb 2003

Achieves Greater Range than Other VSDL Products on the Market
Paclink announces that RAD Data Communications has released a 4-wire symmetrical VDSL-based modem.
The ASM-60 modem features selective data rates of 4, 6 and 10 Mbps, to meet the demand for increased bandwidth in the Local Loop and the corporate campus environment.
The device works in a pair configuration between sites. Sophisticated filters enable the
ASM-60 to transport data over a range that is far greater than that which would be possible using other VDSL products on the market. ASM-60 achieves distances of up to 2.1km (1.3 miles) at rates of 4Mbps over 4 wire, 24 AWG cable, and up to 1.9km (1.2 miles) at rates of 10Mbps. The high speeds enable LAN users at both sites to work as if on the same LAN. The ASM-60 uses QAM technology and offers various interfaces, including HSSI and Ethernet.
Low Cost Broadband Access
The new broadband offers carriers and corporate users the benefits of broadband access over existing copper infrastructure throughout most of the Last Mile coverage area and within enterprise campuses.
According to Craig Martyn, Director of Paclink, Business applications will, out of necessity, demand symmetrical traffic, extended distance and rate-adaptive technologies. RADs new modems cover longer distances than competing products at lower costs.
RADs new broadband DSL modems may prove to be the impetus for a new copper revolution in Local Loop service, Mr Martyn said.
Available from Paclink, the RRP for the ASM-60 ranges from AUD 3834 (ex GST).
