St. Bernard Software Releases UpdateEXPERT V6.0

Featuring New Optional Agent Technology and Enhanced Patch Validation and Administration
St. Bernard Software announces the availability of UpdateEXPERT 6.0. This major release includes an Optional Agent to provide system administrators with a new level of flexibility to manage patches in the most optimal manner for their organization's unique computing environments.
UpdateEXPERT's industry-leading third party database continues to remain the most reliable and comprehensive database of patching information for Microsoft's OS and applications. This latest version includes enhanced patch validation with intelligent version checking functionality that automatically validates files according to checksum, file size and version information. The enhanced validation built into 6.0 will leverage information in a major update of UpdateEXPERT's proprietary database scheduled in a phased rollout to begin the end of April 2003. Additionally, UpdateEXPERT incorporates several functional upgrades to make administration even more robust and easy to use.

UpdateEXPERT 6.0 New Feature Summary:
New Agent Architecture:
- Optional client agent gives organizations the flexibility to manage their networks in the most effective way possible. Any combination of machines -- even those isolated or locked down -- can be managed with a mix of agents and non-agents simultaneously.
Validation Enhancements:
- UpdateEXPERT's Custom Fixes feature now supports user defined validation criteria (file and registry-based). Enhanced support ensures that customized fixes are installed and valid.
- New intelligent version checking capability enables UpdateEXPERT to validate new and updated patches more accurately.
Security Enhancements:
- All components, including agents, are secured using encrypted communications. UpdateEXPERT's patch management database is also checked for validity by cyclical redundancy checking (CRC).
- Alternate Credentials may now be specified for accessing remote machines, giving an administrator the ability to delegate access rights for querying machines or deploying patches to other individuals.
Greater Network Support:
- Microsoft's Active Directory Service is now fully supported. Organizational Units (OUs) designated by the administrator can be used to manage machines more efficiently.
- Profiles are enhanced to make it easier to identify the machines to be managed by OS, Service Pack level or patch level.
Enhanced User Interface:
- Research View has been changed into a tree view to ease and speed up the research process.
- Support for multiple Management Consoles enables a single Master Agent to be shared among any number of Management Consoles, making distributed management and reporting possible.
