Kodak Launches Two New iNnovation Series Colour Scanners - i250 and i260.

Announcement posted by Kodak Document Imaging 13 Jun 2002

Entry-Level Production Scanners Feature Advanced Technology, Dockable Flatbed, Firewire Connection
Kodak has removed the barriers to price performance and advanced technology in the entry-level production category with the launch of the new desktop i200 Series Scanners announced today by Eastman Kodak Companys Document Imaging business. The i200 Series Scanners feature many breakthrough imaging technologies, a unique Dockable Flatbed accessory and an IEEE-1394 (Firewire) connection - all focused on maximizing throughput and return on investment.

Designed to handle up to 5,000 pages per day, the i200 Series Scanners deliver colour and grayscale images at the same fast speed and low price as a bitonal-only scanner - up to 50 pages per minute (ppm) or 100 images per minute (imp) at 200 dpi.

The i200 Series Scanners is the first truly modular family of low volume production scanning devices. The i250 Scanner (simplex) and i260 Scanner (duplex) can be converted from a sheet-feed only unit, to a sheet-feed with flatbed via the industrys first-in-category, A3 size dockable flatbed accessory that easily snaps into the scanner for documents that need special handling. Other options include a post-scan imprinter and an advanced image processing board.

Leveraging its innovative imaging technologies, Kodak has loaded the i200 Series Scanners with features found on its high-speed i800 Series Scanners introduced last year:

TriColour Plus CCD Sensor, which allows simultaneous output of high resolution black and white and colour

Electronic colour drop-out to remove irrelevant background colour for clear, sharp images within forms processing applications

Ultrasonic 3D multi-feed detection, which offers ultrasonic, calibration-free, multi-feed detection to eliminate lost documents

The scanners also feature Kodaks Perfect Page imaging technology and SurePath paper handling, each of which is standard on the companys high and mid-range production scanners.

The excellent price to performance ratio, proven paper handling features and superior image processing and image quality firmly position the i200 Series to leapfrog competitive offerings and land at the top of its category, said Paul Whittard, general manager of Document Imagings Capture business in Greater Asia Region.
According to a recent report by InfoTrends, the low volume production category is the strongest of the industry segments in terms of sales and revenues. The growth of distributed scanning, according to the report, is likely to be a major factor in accelerating shipments. Colour adoption and office automation are also expected to boost the number of shipments through 2006.

The i200 Series Scanners, which are Energy Star compliant, are delivered with both ISIS and TWAIN drivers and Kodak Capture Software Lite, which supports all innovative features of the scanners. Available in the fourth quarter 2002 is a full version of Kodak Capture Software, a high performance, plug and play application with an array of indexing and batching features which can be used with a majority of popular document management and imaging systems.
