Announcement posted by Amp'd Electrical & Solar 23 Oct 2013
One of the most common misconceptions regarding power usage is that at night it will cost you less.
**This is not the case, unless you have it connected to an off peak tariff.
The are 3 domestic tariff's widely used:
Domestic (Lighting, Power & Continuous water heating) - Tariff 11
Description GST* Exclusive GST* Inclusive Units
All consumption 26.730 29.4030 c/kWh
Service fee per metering point per day 50.219 55.2409 c/day
If there is only one Electricity Meter in your switchboard it will be Tariff 11. This is general consumption meter and provides electricity 24/7 to your premises.
Night Rate Super Economy - Tariff 31
This is the cheapest tariff available for water heating. This is because the electricity supply is available only at low electricity-demand periods, such as at night when generators would otherwise be idle.
Electricity supply is made available for a minimum of eight hours per day at times set by the network owner (ENERGEX) at their discretion, generally between the hours of 10pm and 7am. On some days electricity supply may not be turned off at all.
It is designed for storage water heaters and permanently connected heat banks. It can also be used to boost a solar hot water heater.
Description GST* Exclusive GST* Inclusive Units
All consumption 12.370 13.6070 c/kWh
Controlled Supply Economy - Tariff 33
The Economy Plan can be applied to suitably sized electric storage water heaters, solar-electric water heaters and heat pump water heaters. You can also use this tariff for other domestic loads such as swimming pool filters, water bed heaters and some freezers, provided they are permanently connected.
Electricity supply is available for at least 18 hours per day and is switched via load control equipment supplied and maintained by ENERGEX. The times of supply are at ENERGEX's discretion. On some days electricity supply may not be turned off at all.
Description GST* Exclusive GST* Inclusive Units
All consumption 18.052 19.8572 c/kWh

Over 60% of Queenslanders now take advantage of the Economy tariffs for at least one household appliance. Connecting to an Economy tariff helps reduce peak demand and can make a difference to your home energy costs and future price rises.
Before you can take advantage of Economy tariff savings, you need to arrange a connection.
CONNECTING TO AN ECONOMY TARIFF IS EASY!
Connecting to an Economy tariff is a simple as using the phone. Contact Reactive Energy your local licensed electrician and ask us to connect your pool pump, hot water system, washing machine, dryer etc to an Economy tariff.
Appliances connected to an Economy tariff need to be hardwired and connected through a dedicated circuit, back to your meter – this is because power is only available at certain times of the day in return for being charged a cheaper rate for electricity.
A separate meter may be installed for Economy tariffs and is listed separately on your bill so you can see how much energy your connected appliances use on that tariff.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I'M ALREADY CONNECTED TO AN ECONOMY TARIFF?
The easiest way to work out if you are already connected to an Economy tariff is to check your power bill. If you have electricity charges listed against Economy Tariff 33 or Super Economy Tariff 31 (although your specific retailer may refer to these as something else) on your electricity bill – then you already have an Economy tariff connected. If it's not clear on your bill, ask your electricity retailer.
