ARIA Week returns in 2013 from November 26 - December 4

Announcement posted by Martini Media 30 Oct 2013

ARIA WEEK RETURNS IN 2013 FROM NOVEMBER 26 – DECEMBER 4

SYDNEY WILL BE SPOILT FOR MUSICAL CHOICE IN THE LEAD UP TO THE 2013 ARIA AWARDS

In 2012 ARIA celebrated its very first ARIA Week - a week-long program of gigs, showcases, conferences and events taking place in and around Sydney in celebration of Australian music in the lead-up to the Annual ARIA Awards. It was deemed such a success, by industry and fans alike, that ARIA Week is back bigger and better in 2013.

Presented in partnership with Destination NSW, ARIA Week will see Sydney abuzz with the very best new artists and ground-breaking music industry conferences, showcasing the wealth of talent and opportunity the Australian music scene has to offer.

From the discovery of new and unearthed talent to exploring the world of Electronic Music, Hip Hop and Dance, to the recognition of Australia’s best bands and artists, ARIA Week will celebrate all that encapsulates Australian Music.

Denis Handlin AM, ARIA Chairman and Chairman & CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Australia & New Zealand and President, Asia said: “We are proud to celebrate ARIA Week again in 2013 after the success of the 2012 programme. ARIA Week is an exciting initiative introduced alongside our valued partner Destination NSW, to make Sydney the epicentre of the Australian and Asian music industries for the week leading into the ARIA Awards.”

Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Arts, George Souris, said: “Sydney is the vibrant, creative centre of the Australian music industry and offers some of the best live music venues in the country. I’m delighted these will be showcased during ARIA Week when they come alive with the best of our homegrown music talent. Last year, more than 3,000 visitors from overseas, interstate and intrastate came specifically to the Harbour City for the ARIA Awards and ARIA Week, injecting $1.4 million into the NSW economy.”

ARIA is thrilled to again welcome Sonos as a partner for this year’s ARIA Week. Sonos has changed the way people listen to the music they love in every room of their home, and will be showcasing their wireless audio products across all the official venues at ARIA Week. Throughout ARIA Week, Sonos will be giving away a PLAY:1 speaker, the newest all-in-one player in the Sonos range. Everyone who attends a showcase during ARIA Week will be given a Sonos raffle ticket with a winner drawn at each event to win this mini, but mighty speaker.

ARIA is also proud to welcome David Jones, Rdio, Qantas and PPCA as valued partners of ARIA Week in 2013.

As ARIA Week showcases the biggest names in the music industry, Live and Local will celebrate the very place those names first get their 'break' – the local live music scene.  APRA|AMCOS, the AHA NSW and ARIA present Live and Local – a week long showcase of Sydney’s inner city live music venues that will kick off as part of ARIA Week from Monday, November 25 through to Sunday, December 1. From established live music venues through to new venues and spaces hosting their first gigs, Live and Local will promote and encourage the proliferation of live music throughout the week.

Sydney venues can become part of the ARIA Week festivities by registering their shows on the official ARIA Week website and becoming an official part of the ARIA Week program.  By clicking on this link any venue in Sydney can log-in and register their details. Once venue details have been submitted, ARIA will add your show to the list of official gigs on the ARIA Week website (ariaweek.ariaawards.com.au). Venues new to live music will be able to get help booking bands to suit their clientele and budget. So add Live and Local to your ARIA Week calendar and stay tuned for venue and performance details over the next few weeks.

The ARIA Awards and ARIA Week are proudly supported by the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.

Andy Bull

Chance Waters

The Cairos

+ Special Guests

There’s a different kind of buzz coming from Island Records Australia – and this is your chance to see it close up, drink in hand. See synth-pop maestro Andy Bull, the vegan-pop-meets-Hip-Hop collision of Chance Waters plus the pulsing undercurrents of The Cairos’ garage rock. There might even be some surprise guests swinging by too.

Island Records hail from the Universal Music family and is home to artists such as Boy & Bear, Clare Bowditch and Hilltop Hoods (through Golden Era).

Andy Bull: Over recent years, his unique approach to alternative pop has earned him a special reputation. Little more than a one-man production, Andy has written and produced two of the year’s most interesting pop anthems – ‘Keep On Running’ and ‘Baby I Am Nobody Now’ – and following sold out shows up and down the East Coast is gearing up to release his new album in 2014.

Chance Waters: Chance Waters is not a typical hip hop artist and his music is not typical hip hop fare. The outspoken vegan and self-confessed internet addict has established a uniquely recognisable brand of hip hop backed by intelligent lyricism and delicately layered production. His music fuses elements from a wide array of genres with pop hooks, harmonies, swathes of live instrumentation and world class production from Adelaide producer One Above (Hilltop Hoods).

The Cairos: After 12 months of songwriting, previous Triple J Unearthed winners are back with a dark, noisy, psychedelic sound. The Brisbanite four-piece’s upcoming album was produced and mixed by Nick DiDia, who has worked with such greats as Powderfinger, Rage Against The Machine and Karnivool.

SAFIA: www.triplejunearthed.com/Artists/View.aspx?artistid=57822

Remi: www.triplejunearthed.com/Artists/View.aspx?artistid=49360

Jackie Onassis: Kai Tan and Raph Dixon are Sydney hip hop duo Jackie Onassis, whose big choruses, assured production, live instrumentation, and uplifting horn samples on their debut EP Holiday were potent enough to get a thumbs up from both BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe and triple j Unearthed Music Director Dave Ruby Howe.

SAFIA: Canberra electro-indie three-piece SAFIA are a synth-driven force to be reckoned with. Since winning triple j Unearthed's Groovin The Moo competition earlier this year they've gone on to support the likes of Disclosure, Rudimental, and tour across Australia with Sydney boys RüFüS.

Remi: Melbourne emcee Remi offers up catchy hooks and an effortless flow that's both self-referential, and littered with pop-cultural tidbits. He’s an emerging rapper who's got the goods and is making a name by dropping decidedly big tunes.
