FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BlueCross Springfield and the local community open a memorial sensory garden to pay tribute to residents who have passed

Residents, family and friends of BlueCross Springfield in Box Hill celebrated the opening of a memorial sensory garden with a high tea yesterday.

The garden has been funded by the fund raising committee and family members of those who have passed.

Its opening is timely before the memorial service scheduled for 1 November 2013 where we celebrate the lives of those we have loved and cared for in the past year.

All flowers in the garden have been planted and grown by BlueCross Springfield residents in particular Arthur Emerson, our main resident gardener.

Marg Alexander, BlueCross Springfield Residence Manager, said that the afternoon had a ‘positive atmosphere’ and was attended by ‘the executive and management teams of BlueCross as well as families, volunteers, residents and some past respite residents’.

As a BlueCross innovation, the garden has been designed to provide a sensory experience for residents, through unique smells, sounds, sights and materials to touch.

These features allow residents to go on a unique journey through the garden, relax and enjoy the outdoors.
