Hottest Trends in Home Extensions and Home Renovations in Perth

Announcement posted by Next Level Extensions 07 Nov 2013

Providers of home renovations and home extensions in Perth reveal the hottest trends in the renovation industry.
Perth, WA, November 7, 2013 - Many homeowners are finding that their current homes don't have enough space for their needs. The traditional move when this happens is to buy a larger home. However, this means that the family has to find another home, pack up all of their belongings, move them and get settled into another home.

It also means a lot of paperwork, changing accounts such as electricity and water and in some cases, changing schools for their children. It means losing neighbours and having to learn the unfamiliar instead of staying with local amenities that have become comfortable over a period of years.

Consequently, many families are renovating their current homes or having home extensions built to increase their space and stay in their current neighbourhoods. Renovations and extensions have become a “hot item” in Perth as of late and local providers, such as Next Level Extensions, are noticing emerging trends for 2013.

One such trend is that open design, multi-purpose rooms are replacing smaller, single-purpose rooms. This frees up space and can allow a lot more light to come in. In the minds of many Australians, one large room is now greater than the sum of three smaller rooms.

Redesigning and updating older kitchens is another popular trend for 2013. According to many in the Real Estate industry, the best way to increase sale value of a house is to put in a modern kitchen. Apparently, a lot of people are listening.

Alfresco areas are also becoming extremely popular. Alfresco, or outdoor areas, provide the benefit of more recreation space but they don't cost nearly as much to build and they don't require any major adjustments to the frame of the house. Many Australians are using alfresco areas for grilling food and some even have full ovens in them. Large-screen TV's and every imaginable recreational amenity are turning up in alfresco areas.

A subtle but important trend in remodelling and renovating is to add patterns and prints over solid colours. Wallpapering and decorative tiling have become very popular as a way to create a more festive environment. Standard plain colours are currently going by the wayside, being replaced by brighter colours.

According to Craig Johns, Director of Next Level Extensions, many current trends may be here to stay for awhile:  “Whether we are providing home extensions or home renovations, Perth residents are sending a message that status quo isn't going to cut it any more. While traditional decorating and renovation may have worked in the past, people now demand more out of their homes.”

Johns continued, “At Next Level Extensions, we are getting a lot of requests for second storey additions, home renovation and home extensions from our Perth customers and we are seeing the same trends no matter what we are asked to do. One of our favourite requests is that we renovate the bottom part of the house and put a second storey addition on the top.”

Johns concluded, “We are seeing a lot of bright colours, alfresco areas, multi-purpose rooms and redesigned kitchens, and we don't see any end in sight to these trends. Since today's trend is tomorrow's “business as usual,” we expect these four to become mainstays in Perth and most of Australia for a lot of the foreseeable future.”
