Real Institute ‘keeps it Real’ to team up against poverty, completing Oxfam Trailwalker Perth, walking 100km in 34 hours in support of Oxfam Australia

The Real Institute team was one of 369 incredible teams of four who took part in a 100km journey from Kalamunda to Childlow from 18-20th October 2013 in support of Oxfam Australia. The Oxfam Trailwalker is one of the world's toughest team challenges and Oxfam's largest fundraising event, raising funds to support people living in poverty around the world. Team Real have done it tough for people doing it even tougher and would love your support.

Having survived the daytime heat, exhausting night and downpours of rain they reached the finish line as a team of four. Sunburnt, blistered and tired they became alive with energy as they reached family and friends cheering them on at the end who were so proud to be part of something so extraordinary for such a worthy cause.

The Real Institute team consisted of 4 extraordinary walkers Sally-Ann Parker, Dion Smith, Kristy Parker and Michael Allen who completed the course, and their wonderful support crew who were their welcoming beacon of hope and support each time the walking team approached the checkpoints, guiding their increasingly weary bodies to a place to rest, refuelling them with some amazing food, massaging aching muscles and providing periods of refuge and comfort.

To prepare themselves for this event, Team REAL undertook a rigorous training program to build up their endurance and strength, with long walks of at least 6 hours in the weeks leading up to the event. The training and preparation for this event involved a large commitment from all the Real team. However all the hard work and time dedicated to training by the team at Real Institute was well and truly rewarded when the team crossed the finish line at the event weekend.
