GOLD COAST STARTUP WEEKEND JOINS GLOBAL STARTUP BATTLE

GOLD COAST, Nov. 13, 2013 – This weekend’s Gold Coast Startup Weekend will be competing in the Global Startup Battle against participants of other Startup Weekend events running simultaneously across the globe. Startups will be in competition for some massive global prizes such as flights to Google HQ and $20, 000 USD in funding. There are currently 113 cities competing including Gold Coast, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Hosted by Silicon Lakes Limited, Gold Coast Startup Weekend helps budding and experienced local entrepreneurs launch a startup in 54 hours. Running across the weekend of 15  - 17 November 2013, this event provides experiential education for entrepreneurs. The event begins on Friday night with participants pitching their ideas and inspiring others to join their team, continuing throughout the weekend with brainstorming, business plans, development, creation and validation. The event concludes on Sunday night for demonstrations and presentations. Startup Weeekend, founded in Seatlle, has over 45, 000 alumni around the globe and over 400 past Startup Weekend events in over 100 countries.

Participants can gain valuable skills by stepping outside their comfort zone and learning through creation. One-on-one time with local tech experts, startup mentors, entrepreneurs, coaches and judges is available for teams and individuals. By meeting like-minded people, industry experts and technologically savvy individuals, networks can be built and invaluable contacts made.  This event can also provide a great platform for launching a new business. 36% of ‘Startup Weekend’ startups are still strong after three months. Approximately 80% of participants plan on continuing working with their team or startup after the event.
