Harbour City Ferries Selects ComOps Microster Workforce Management Solution

Announcement posted by ComOps Limited 14 Nov 2013

Harbour City Ferries [HCF] has selected ComOps workforce management solution Microster, as a core component for its’ fully integrated HR / Rostering / Award Interpretation / Payroll solution.  Harbour City Ferries operates multiple ferry services in the Transport for NSW cluster and is a collaboration of Transdev & Transfield Services, both leading providers of transportation & logistics services.

Microster’s workforce planning, rostering and costing functionality provide HCF with a fast, flexible system  to quickly plan and allocate personnel for daily operations. Microster plans the forecasting of resources, based on timetables, staffing and asset availability in a dynamic operation.

HCF chose Microster due to its ability to automate timesheets, allocate available shifts based on skills, cost and suitability, and optimise labour costs through web based self-service and mobility modules. HCF employees can access both available and allocated  shifts, bid for leave and shifts via mobile and on-line devices and receive approvals signed off via an automated workflow.

Adam O’Halloran, IT Manager at Harbour City Ferries, said, “In Microster we found a solution for cost effectively and efficiently supporting a distributed workforce which can be rapidly customised for the specific requirements of our ferry operation.  We reviewed several options but selected Microster based on its overall cost, flexibility and feature functionality.  We‘ll now be able to proactively manage labour costs and optimise our utilisation while supporting our compliance and safety regulations. We believe Microster will substantially improve our workplace operations and overall business performance.”

Microster will also automate award interpretation, provide an audit trail on all rostered hours in accordance with relevant industrial awards and enterprise agreements, allocate resources, cater for demand, record profitability of day to day operations and monitor fatigue management.

Microster will integrate with various core systems such as HCF’s “Chris 21” payroll and HR software and “Kaba” access control system. Microster will automate  a large number of manual business processes currently in spreadsheets and replaces the [US based] Kronos system.
