WatchGuard Technologies Protects More Than 15,000 Media Attendees at the Tokyo Motor Show

Announcement posted by WatchGuard Technologies 28 Nov 2013

For the fourth consecutive show, images, video and content will be protected from Security Threat
WatchGuard® Technologies, a leader in integrated security platforms, today announced that it is the official Unified Threat Management solution provider to the forty-third Tokyo Motor Show, which will draw approximately 840,000 visitors. The event, occurring November 23 through December 1 in Tokyo, brings more than 15,000 members of the media to report on experimental technologies and concept vehicles. The cadre of international journalists relies on a safe and secure connection to transmit terabytes of images, video and insights into the future of automotive technology.

This is the fourth consecutive year that WatchGuard has installed a suite of products from WatchGuard’s UTM platform to provide robust bandwidth as well as secure connections for the media-only network. WatchGuard’s hardware on site is capable of providing 35GB/second to more than 20,000 users and 2.5 million concurrent sessions, as well as the ability to fight the blended threats that can hamper connectivity at large-scale events.

“The concentration of connections and the amount of data being sent makes an environment like this a robust target for cyber criminals,” said Corey Nachreiner, WatchGuard’s director of security strategy. “Being able to monitor not only network performance, but also be able to identify any potential treats as they occur is vital to the stable experience the media expects. WatchGuard allows users to simply focus on going about their business and not worry about cyber attacks. But of course, users of any open network should take extra precautions to ensure their data is safe.”

The show has consistently chosen WatchGuard appliances and UTM because of its ease of implementation and the quality, reliability and performance of the network. This year, the show is utilising WatchGuard Dimension <http://www.watchguard.com/dimension> , a network security visibility solution. WatchGuard will be providing real-time analysis and data logs to the show’s IT staff to ensure the users are continuously protected. WatchGuard Dimension provides network administrators a suite of visibility and reporting tools that distill logs of data into actionable security issues and trends, enabling network administrators to quickly develop the best security policies and protect users in real time. The show is able to isolate any potential viruses, drive-by download threats or even dead drops from USB drives.

“Offering this level of protection for such a prestigious event is a monumental task — one that WatchGuard is well equipped to handle,” said Masato Negishi, WatchGuard Japan’s country manager. “The increase in blended threats is especially challenging for multimedia professionals thanks to the change in the way journalists work. We were able to quickly implement the WatchGuard platform and enable the world’s media to upload stories and file reports. In a unique environment such as the Tokyo Motor Show, speed and protection are important for an overall positive experience.”
