Charity campaign launch: Australia's IT industry 'Putting IT Back' in 2002

Announcement posted by Starlight Foundation 14 Aug 2002

Starlight and Giant Steps partner with IT community to help brighten the lives of seriously ill children
IT Fund for Kids has announced the launch of 'Putting IT Back' 2002, the annual charity fund supported by the Australian information technology (IT) industry. Now in its third year, 'Putting IT Back' brings the IT community together to raise funds for the Starlight Children's Foundation, which brightens the lives of seriously ill children and their families, and Giant Steps, a school for children with autism.
Through the efforts of 62 IT companies who have participated over the past two years, a total of 275 children's lives have been touched with the granting of wishes and provision of specialised care. The goal for 'Putting IT Back' 2002 is to help a further 85 children by raising $350,000.
This year's campaign will occur throughout the month of October, when IT employees and the general IT community will be asked to contribute a day's pay (or a nominated amount) to the campaign. Each organisation then has the opportunity to match the amount raised by their staff.
Proceeds from the 'Putting IT Back' 2002 campaign will be used by the Starlight Foundation for its wish-granting program. Giant Steps will use the funds to will use the funds to implement a 'Life Skills' program for children with autism.
"The number of children we have been able to help through 'Putting IT Back' is a direct result of the incredible support IT Fund for Kids has received from the IT community over the past two years," said Jill Weekes, CEO, Starlight Children's Foundation. "It is a particularly significant achievement during such a difficult period for the whole IT industry. We are extremely appreciative to each and every company involved, and look forward to brightening the lives of many more children in 2002."
IT Fund for Kids is calling for participation from any company involved in the IT industry, including vendors, industry organisations, marketing and public relations companies and publishing houses. Companies already signed up for this year include: AIIA, Cisco Systems, Citrix, Concord, Dimension Data, eSign, Howorth Communications, IBM, Intergraph Corporation, Telstra on Air and Volante.
