The Gold Coast is Australia's favorite holiday playground - its been that way since the 1950s when Surfers Paradise was established as a single hotel, sleepy beachside town and has grown up over the last half century as Australia's 7th largest city and one of the fastest growing cities for the past decade.
With more and more attractions popping up, it is obvious that the region one of the most tourist-oriented in the world, and this is backed up by the latest Australian tourist and migration statistics.
We've put together a great guide of some of the most popular attractions and 'must visit' places on the Gold Coast, it's by no means exhaustive, but it is from an unbiased perspective, based on statistics and growth figures. The Gold Coast is a dedicated tourist town and there's enough things to do to keep you occupied for months. The big four, which you've probably heard of, are Dreamworld, Sea World, Movie World and Wet 'n' Wild, but there are quite a few more. Get up close and pat a koala, watch some outback horsemen and women race around a stadium, or mingle with the native birds at breakfast.

Bushwalking in the Hinterland is a fantastic full day experience that can do done cost-free, bring some drinks and lunch for a great day out with the family. The Gold Coast Hinterland is a magical, breath-taking place of great natural beauty. It's full of interesting wildlife and bushwalking is hugely popular all year around.

With more canals than Venice, a gorgeous river and a broadwater that will take you all the way to Brisbane, getting around the Gold Coast on a boat is one of the nicest way to see things. Choose from a party cruise, intimate gondola or anything in between.

Surfing on the Gold Coast is one of the main attractions and also another cost effective and fun day out for the family.

Golf Tourism is one of the largest Southeast Asian attractions to the region, due to numerous golfing resorts and on-course accommodation, coupled with very affordable green and course fees, and multiple public golf course offerings. The Gold Coast has more golf courses per head of population than anywhere else in the world. No matter what your handicap, or budget, you'll find somewhere picturesque to have a round.

Nightclubs on the glitter strip of Surfers Paradise are a major attraction for young people visiting the Gold Coast From world-class dance venues with guest superstar DJs, to the downright seedy joints with suspicious-looking patrons, the Gold Coast has a lot of dance floor out there.
