Hagemeyer Communications announces NMS studio sound for peerless high performance wireless sound quality

Announcement posted by Hagemeyer Communications 24 Feb 2004

Hagemeyer Communications, the telecommunications business unit of business-to-business (B2B) distribution services group Hagemeyer NV, today announced the availability of NMS Studio Sound on the NMS Communications range of Sonata and Mercury platforms.
Wireless phones are a vital part of everyday life, making it harder than ever to predict when and where a conversation will take place. It might be in a moving car, a busy train station or airport, a crowded city street, or a loud and lively restaurant. With NMS Communications Studio Sound, mobile operators can offer subscribers a mobile experience unlike any other. Every call will sound like it is taking place in a quiet recording studio booth even if your customer is in the middle of a construction zone.
Available now in the Australian, New Zealand and South Asian markets, NMS Communications Studio Sound is the industrys leading comprehensive suite of voice quality capabilities for wireless communications. Proven to increase Mean Opinion Scores (MOS) by as much as 20%, it creates an optimal listening environment for both parties in a wireless telephone conversation, leading to higher customer satisfaction, increased usage, and higher retention rates.
Studio Sound has been deployed globally, and is continually enhanced to deliver increasingly advanced features. Studio Sound is available on NMS voice quality systems (VQS) and as a standalone product to be incorporated into suitable DSPs.
Mobile phone users want better voice quality and any mobile operator that ignores the call for quality runs the risk of losing money from shortened calls and the potential to miss out on profits from calls never made said Gerry Forsythe, Product Marketing Manager for Hagemeyer Communications.
Worse yet, they run the risk of mobile phone customers jumping ship because they can no longer tolerate the echo, static and noise, as experienced by most mobile customers in Australia. With immediate return on investments, NMS Studio Sound offers a fast and easy way to improve voice quality, he said.
NMS Communications voice quality systems are complete, ready-to-install solutions deployed in central offices and mobile switching centres (MSCs) to achieve consistently clear voice quality. These offerings, deployed by over 100 of the worlds leading service providers in todays telecom and packet-based networks, include market-leading voice quality systems which NMS Communications acquired from Lucent Technologies in 2001. Many of these systems were designed by the engineers who invented echo cancellation technology at Bell Labs, the predecessor to Lucent Technologies.
Voice Quality - NMS offers the broadest range of price performance leading voice quality and echo cancellation systems to meet the rigorous requirements of wireless and long distance networks. These carrier-grade voice quality systems include broadband and narrowband solutions to meet a wide variety of global interfaces.
All incorporate Studio Sound technology, offer the highest density on the market, and take advantage of NMS Communications state-of-the-art management tools to simplify administration and lower the cost of ownership.
Mercury Broadband Voice Quality System The NMS Mercury is the most versatile high-density system for broadband voice quality. It supports both electrical (STS1, DS3, and STM1E) and optical (OC3 and STM1) interfaces in one system, with multiple combinations possible on a single shelf. It can be easily upgraded from electrical to optical technology at without replacing an entire system for unmatched flexibility and investment protection.
Sonata Series Narrowband Voice Quality Systems - Sonata combines the complete range of industry-leading echo cancellation and voice enhancement features from NMS. It dynamically adapts to changing noise in the environment to improve call quality, significantly enhances signal-to-noise ratio, and provides optimal signal power levels in both directions. Sonatas user-friendly interface runs on a PC under Microsoft Windows. Sonata voice quality systems eliminate both electrical and acoustic echo in any long distance or wireless network call, and are available for both T1 and E1.

Network Analysis System - The Network Analysis System enables users to monitor and analyse the performance of their networks through interaction with NMS voice quality systems. Network performance parameters such as speech, noise, and echo levels are collected, processed, and can be displayed in a variety of report formats, giving network engineers the ability to analyse the network, identify potential problems, and tune the network for optimum performance. This is all achieved without interrupting traffic, degrading network services, or interfering with NMS equipment operations.
Echoscan EchoScan enables users to monitor and provision NMS voice quality systems using a remote UNIX or PC workstation from anywhere in the world. This powerful environment supports up to ten clients and can monitor up to 2,000,000 voice channels per server, allowing network operators to respond to alarms and re-provision on the fly. In addition to providing alarm notification, EchoScan offers a history log and updates of configuration changes. It can be used in conjunction with the Network Analysis System or on its own as an alarm monitoring and provisioning tool to keep networks running smoothly 24 hours per day.

These leading products connect to the widest variety of network interfaces and embed custom ASIC technology. The portfolio offers the highest density at the lowest cost, ensures the highest quality voice in the noisiest settings through the patented Studio Sound features, and is available with comprehensive support and services. This product family includes:
■ NMS Sonata 100 high-density T1 or E1 voice quality system
■ NMS Mercury broadband SONET/DS3, SDH voice quality system
■ NMS Mercury 14K broadband SONET/DS3, SDH voice quality system
■ NMS Sonata III high-density E1 voice quality system
Field recordings at customer sites attest to the high-quality performance achieved when an NMS voice quality system with Studio Sound is installed in a network. Results show that the noise was greatly reduced for the listener on the PSTN side, while the volume of the PSTN speaker increased dramatically during periods of loud noise on the wireless side. The difference in call quality before and after Studio Sound has impressed telecom operators in similar field trials conducted all over the world.
