Beginning on Friday 24, Melbourne taxi drivers and passengers will each be rewarded with a bonus of up to $10 dollars for collecting/boarding a taxi in Melbourne CBD.

The recent senseless assaults against taxi drivers has escalated and there are no measures to curb this violence.

The trial starting on Friday is to reduce taxi drivers to less weekend violence. “Taxi Drivers are exposed to anonymous passengers, and if assaulted, there are many times no consequences for the assailants. When booking a taxi using an app, a passengers name and phone number is temporarily stored stored and this lack of anonymity is known to reduce unaccepted behavior” says CabCue founder Dzevad Kapic.

Catching a taxi late on a weekend night can be difficult, not just because of a high demand, but because many drivers try to avoid certain areas in the city. Such tragedies as we have seen over the past weeks must be avoided and the safety of taxi drivers and passengers can be improved. Says Dzevad Kapic.

The results of the trial will be made available to the government and CabCue hopes to be able to improve the safety of taxi driver and passengers in Victoria and subsequently the rest of Australia.
