Equant Partners with Network Appliance to Improve Enterprise Customers' Access to the Internet and their Intranet Business Applications

Announcement posted by Equant 02 Aug 2003

Worldwide agreement for Equant Cache Management service and NetApp(r) NetCache(r) offers significant cost and performance benefits
Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leading provider of enterprise network storage solutions, has announced that Equant (NYSE: ENT) (Euronext Paris: EQU), an industry leader in global data and IP network, and integration services for multinational businesses, has selected the NetApp NetCache hardware product family as the infrastructure backbone for Equant's Cache Management service.
NetApp NetCache systems enable Equant to offer Cache Management to enterprise customers in over 140 countries, providing secure, high-performance, cost-effective access to internet and business-critical intranet information. Equant already has over 300 NetCache systems in more than 50 countries under its management.
With Equant Cache Management, customers can effectively eliminate network and server bottlenecks to dramatically improve the use of web-accessible business applications, streaming media, content distribution, traffic monitoring, filtering and virus scanning. Customers can use Equant's service to improve basic internet access and can also leverage this service to accelerate intranet access. Intranet content is replicated at critical locations within the customer's IP VPN or WAN, resulting in up to 40 per cent savings in bandwidth and up to a 95 per cent improvement in response time over legacy systems. In addition, Equant Cache Management reduces the number of servers a company must buy and manage; increases employee productivity and satisfaction with faster information access; and reduces exposure to viruses and other security threats.
"Our new Cache Management service is part of our effort to help our customers maximise their IT resources," said Gilles Pradere, Head of
Managed Services at Equant. "With the support of NetApp NetCache, Equant Cache Management offers customers the potential to decrease operational expenses; increase employee productivity and satisfaction; and improve network and data security."
"As the leader in the content delivery market, Network Appliance has always set the bar for performance and total cost of ownership, and our work with Equant provides yet another opportunity for Enterprises to benefit from our solutions," said Amit Pandey, Vice President and General Manager, Content Delivery Business Unit at Network Appliance. "Enterprises continue to leverage caching technologies to access new types of business information.
Equant's innovative Cache Management service demonstrates that caching and content delivery have become mainstream in the Enterprise."
