Arbor Networks’ Scott Crane Talks About “Needles in Haystacks – the Size of Countries”

At the Digital Government Conference in Canberra on 5th March

SYDNEY, Australia - February 27, 2014 – Scott Crane, Director, Product Management at Arbor Networks, Inc., a leading provider of DDoS and advanced threat protection solutions for enterprise and service provider networks, will reveal how to find “Needles in Haystacks – the Size of Countries” when he speaks at the Digital Government Conference in Canberra on 5th March.

At the Digital Government Conference, organised by CommStrat, Scott Crane will talk about how to find attacks hidden within an organisation’s network. He will tell the audience how these security risks are often unknown, but if prevention fails initially, detection is the key and protection from future attacks is the objective moving forward.

Scott will discuss today’s breed of attacker and how they use stealthy and sophisticated methods to penetrate an organisation’s network. He’ll tell the audience that the signs there have been an attack are often difficult to spot before it’s too late. He will cover how government organisations can understand subtle, advanced targeted attacks and why they need a complete record of all network traffic. This is because by analysing data very quickly, Arbor enables security teams to make real-time attack response decisions, and by storing the data for future reviews, it can be looped to identify previously undetected attacks using the latest threat intelligence.

The technology behind Arbor’s new Pravail® Security Analytics solution, being launched this month, was developed by Packetloop, the Australia-based innovator in the field of Big Data Security Analytics that Arbor acquired in September 2013. Scott Crane was the CEO and co-founder of Packetloop and joined Arbor at the time of acquisition.

“Since acquiring Packetloop, Arbor can now offer enterprise security teams the richest set of data regarding the activities happening on their network. Our customers can now see attacks on their networks faster and in more detail than seen before.  We’re focused on bringing meaningful context to massive amounts of data, so government customers can react faster and help identify the threats lurking within their network environment before they impact the organisation,” said Scott Crane.

The Digital Government Conference is being held at the Rydges Lakeside in Canberra on 4-5 March. Please see Digital Government Conference for more information.
