Adobe not the only game in town for publishers

Announcement posted by Liquid State 22 Mar 2014

Brisbane company Liquid State has gained a significant boost over major competitor Adobe.

Smartphones and tablets are now no longer synonymous with Apple or iOS. With 81% of smartphones running Android in late 2013, and Windows Phone increasing market share in Europe, people are using a much wider variety of devices.

This poses a real problem for publishers and marketers who want to communicate with people on the go.  In a recent survey, 59% of corporate communicators and publishers said multi-channel channel marketing was their top strategy for 2014.

Being omni-channel isn’t easy. Email is easily ignored and, with the differences in browsers across iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, even building a website doesn’t guarantee a consistent experience, says Philip Andrews, CEO of Liquid State.

“Websites are unreliable, custom apps are so expensive – publishers and marketers are really looking for way to get their message out to everyone. That’s where Liquid State comes in.”

Liquid State is a cloud-based platform for securely distributing documents across iOS, Android and Windows Phone. Users can convert documents destined for print into branded apps for all three platforms.

Adobe, the creator of InDesign and Photoshop, is currently a market leader, with their Digital Publishing Suite (DPS). However, DPS does not create native apps for Windows Phone.

Digital publishing just isn’t going to develop if it’s dominated by a complex system which was really designed for print publishing. At the end of the day, it’s about solving problems for users and in our case, users have a problem with Adobe,” explains Andrews.

The company built their platform in association with Microsoft. “We’re really grateful for all their support,” says Andrews. “The Microsoft Innovation Centre has provided us with a wealth of experience and knowledge.”

Liquid State is an alumnus of Startupbootcamp Berlin. The company is based in Brisbane, Australia and was recently awarded the accolade for High-Growth Business Startup at the Lord Mayor’s Business Awards. Liquid State is a Microsoft Bizspark company.
