Australian Federal Government asks for submissions on cutting red tape

Government says it will allocate two parliamentary days a year to give business a break

The Australian Federal Government has asked for submissions on cutting red tape. And the small business sector has every reason to get involved, according to Sydney business coach Mike Reddy.

"It’s every business advisor's dream to see the myriad of red tape removed from the small business sector so business owners can instead focus on creating jobs, making money and paying taxes", he said.

"Bureaucratic nonsense becomes a charge levied on small business in terms of time, cost and complete frustration. Ultimately it impacts on every sector within our society. And the opportunity to rid ourselves of it doesn’t present itself very often".

Now it seems it might be presented twice a year.

The government’s aim is to cut around $1 billion from regulatory costs.

"I am hoping that as well as cutting red tape they will also be looking at slashing a lot of green tape.  This will go some way to ensuring that hoped for benefits for the community are not offset by costs charged to the small business sector who tend to be left carrying the burden of regulation every single time", Mr Reddy said.

"If the productivity commission is serious about reducing the cost of business so that Australia can compete with the rest of the world, they have to be serious about the costs incurred by the small business sector when it comes to dealing with regulation".

The government is allocating two Parliamentary days every year where they will remove red tape from regulations, according to Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Josh Frydenberg.

They are also putting together a framework which they say will ensure that future regulations consider the cost to society as well as the benefits. That guide is available at http://cuttingredtape.gov.au/handbook/australian-government-guide-regulation
