Nuance duty free stores operator and Globalgig offer low cost overseas mobile broadband to avoid bill shock

Announcement posted by Globalgig 02 Apr 2014

Use mobile broadband overseas from just 5 cents per MB

Nuance, one of Australia’s leading travel retailers and low cost mobile broadband pioneer Globalgig today have changed the way people can use their tablets and mobile devices overseas by making Globalgig’s low cost mobile broadband SIM cards available at Nuance’s duty free stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane airports. The Globalgig SIM on its Flexi plan means travellers can now use mobile data in Australia from 2 cents per MB, in the UK, USA and Ireland from 5 cents per MB, then in 36 other countries around the world for only 10 or 20 cents per MB (see countries below).

Globalgig Channel Sales and Marketing Manager Matt Farmer said, “This is a big day for Australian travellers and put simply it means they now don’t have to turn their data off when they go overseas. Many travellers simply don’t use data overseas as, until now, it’s been very expensive and often very complex. By using Globalgig’s low cost mobile broadband you can just put the SIM card in your tablet or mobile device and only pay for what you use.”

Data roaming and bill shock have been massive issues for Australians travelling overseas with many reporting huge bills upon their return to the country. Globalgig’s mobile broadband is the first service to take out all the inconveniences of using data overseas, particularly the cost, and enable it to be used in the same way it is domestically.

Farmer continued, “Data roaming can be a traveller’s worst nightmare. Often it is barred, with the big Telcos you have to pay upfront or additional costs to your usual mobile broadband plan, it’s complicated and horrifically expensive. We’ve done our research and you can be charged up to $3 a MB by other Telcos where our charges start at just 5 cents per MB!”

With Globalgig now being sold at Nuance Australia’s SYD Tax & Duty Free store in Sydney Airport and F1RST Tax & Duty Free stores in Melbourne and Brisbane airports, Australian travellers no longer need to worry about finding alternative solutions, such as buying a local country SIM or an expensive upfront roaming bundle or bolt-on, when wanting to use their unlocked tablets and mobile data devices overseas.

Nuance Australia’s Category ManagerShlendra Prasad Bilash said, “We’re always looking for new products and innovations which enhance our customers’ experience in our stores and meet their changing needs. For more and more travellers, having access to the internet via their tablet or mobile device is an essential tool when they travel abroad, regardless of whether they are travelling for business or leisure. This product is great value and gives customers a very convenient, easy and cost-effective solution to what has been in the past a confusing and expensive part of their trip planning.”

When travellers return to Australia Globalgig offers them a free switch to their Home & Abroad plan which gives customers all-inclusive mobile data for use in Australia, USA, UK and Ireland from just $9 for 1GB, plus access to the same additional 36 countries in the Globalgig network at the same incredibly low 10 cent or 20 cent per MB prices.

Matt Farmer concluded, “The only other advice we give people wanting to use mobile broadband overseas is to turn off software updates and change email settings from push to fetch. With those settings in place using Globalgig mobile broadband overseas is simple, low cost and convenient – you don’t need to turn off your data when you travel, you can use your tablet or mobile device like a local in 40 countries, you don’t need to worry about bill shock as you are paying low, flat rates per MB and you only pay for the data you use.”

Globalgig’s low cost mobile data service can be used by purchasing a $5 SIM starter pack at any Nuance airport duty free store. There are no lock-in contracts and you can switch between Globalgig plans month by month at no extra cost.

Outside of Nuance’s airport duty free stores Globalgig is also available online at www.globalgig.com.au, at Dick Smith and Big W.
