Sutton's Cidery to host Queensland's first Cider Festival on the Granite Belt this May

Announcement posted by Granite Belt Wine & Tourism 02 Apr 2014

Champion Queensland cider makers will be holding the state’s first celebration of Australia’s fastest growing favourite beverage.

The Sutton’s Cider Festival will be a celebration of the apple that made the town of Stanthorpe in the Granite Belt famous, by showcasing cider varieties and locally made produce that feature the humble fruit.

David and Roz Sutton, owners and founders of multiple award winning Sutton’s Apple Juice Factory & Cidery said “Following trips to France and England to investigate the making of cider, we began making cider 14 years ago and were the first people in Queensland to do so commercially.”

“Following the success of our Sutton’s Dry Cider being awarded the Grand Champion Trophy at the inaugural Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show Cider Competition in 2012, we thought it would be a great idea to celebrate with a unique festival,” they said.

The festival will be held amongst the autumnal leaves in the apple orchard with special features including Mulled Cider and Mulled Apple Juice.

“The day would not be complete without a serving of the famous Sutton’s apple pie with spiced apple cider ice cream, but other local delicacies including  a hearty lunch of roast pork on the spit, pork and fennel sausages with Sutton’s apple sauce and chutney and lots more locally grown food,” David said.

David Sutton will be on hand to explain the making of cider and the secondary process of using cider to make Apple Brandy and Apple Cider Vinegar.

The Sutton’s Cider Festival will be held on Sunday 18 May from 11am to 4pm and will include tastings of Sutton’s dry and semisweet ciders, entertainment by Brisbane trio Blonde Chocolate.

Bookings are essential and the all inclusive ticket price of $90.00 per person includes food, cider and entertainment.
