GCIT STUDENTS MAKE WAVES IN THE MUSIC SCENE

Announcement posted by Gold Coast Institute of TAFE 10 Apr 2014

FOUR GCIT (Gold Coast Institute of TAFE) Music students, who formed the band December Nine, are now making an impact on the South-East Queensland music scene.

It was in the classrooms and recording studios an of GCIT’s Coomera campus where the students met while studying the Diploma of Music and established their unique sound of funk, metal and analogue synthesis.

Lead singer of the progressive metal band, Tash Agius, said GCIT’s Diploma of Music played a big part in forming the band which they one day hope to expand worldwide.

“Studying at GCIT gave us the professional assistance, the environment and the confidence to pursue the dream we had as individuals and combine to turn that dream into a reality,” said Agius.

“Traveling the world playing our music is our goal as we want to see people from different cultures and nationalities connecting with us and our music.

GCIT’s Diploma of Music focuses on developing live performance skills and enhancing the student’s use of technology to further their career paths.

GCIT Chief Executive Officer, Aaron Devine, said the Coomera campus hosts the Institutes creative industries courses and boasts an array of talented students.

“Our Coomera campus is a vibrant creative hub with many talented students going onto successful careers across music, design, theatre, live production and much more,” said Devine.

“The members of December Nine are a great example of how important it is to make connections with likeminded peers during study.”

Since graduating in 2013, two of the December Nine members have returned to GCIT to complete a Diploma in Sound Production which will provide them with technical skills to be able to produce music to a professional standard.

December Nine’s tour schedule takes them all over the Gold Coast and Brisbane, performing at venues such as The Loft on Chevron Island, Ric’s Bar in Fortitude Valley and at GCIT events.
