Mercator Selected By APL To Provide EDI/XML Translation Capabilities Acrosss BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform
Announcement posted by Mercator Software 01 Aug 2002
APL will deploy the Mercator Data Exchange Solution(tm) across APL and APL Logistics. The solution features Mercator's mapping and translation technology, which highly complements the integration offered by BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform(tm), and is designed to enhance the management and processing of high volumes of EDI and XML messages, enabling the fast and efficient distribution of real-time logistics information. Processes are automated using Mercator's new JMS messaging adapter and a connector built by Mercator and BEA as part of their recently announced partnership.
Cynthia A. Stoddard, Vice President and CIO of APL Limited, said: "We selected Mercator to work with our BEA installation after a rigorous and competitive proof of concept stage, which Mercator completed with solid success. In mapping, routing, transformation, and connectivity, Mercator demonstrated significant productivity gains. Mercator's close relationship with BEA also was a primary contributing factor in our decision."
The Mercator Data Exchange Solution(tm) is designed to process and manage transactions between any input and any output while simultaneously processing complex EDI and XML data transactions. Mercator technology will help reduce the high costs involved with manually processing EDI and XML transactions, as well as reduce the risk of weeks-long delays and failures associated with processing complex data transactions. Mercator works in conjunction with the BEA solution, which provides messaging and business process management. As a result, new customers and trading partners will be integrated into APL's electronic transaction network faster and more efficiently.
Scott Edginton, Vice President and General Manager of Global Software Partners at BEA Systems, Inc., said: "Our partnership with Mercator is driven by market demand and designed to meet customer expectations. Our joint effort on behalf of APL Limited is a case in point. We look forward to providing business benefits to APL and to other mutual customers through the combination of BEA and Mercator's best-in-class technology and leading vertical solutions."
Mercator's General Manager, Nathan Bray said: "The Mercator Data Exchange Solution(tm) we are deploying for APL with BEA is a great example of what partners can do when they focus on solving significant issues for their customers. Our solution offers demonstrable ROI and productivity gains. It is an outgrowth of Mercator's success in building high-volume EDI and XML hubs for logistics enterprises throughout the world, including federal postal systems, commercial shipping ports, and private companies. We are proud to welcome APL to our growing family of premier logistics and distribution customers and delighted to be working so closely with our BEA partner on behalf of APL."
