Announcement posted by Gold Coast Institute of TAFE 01 May 2014

GCIT (Gold Coast Institute of TAFE) apprentice chef Timothy Stapleforth was crowned the winner of the 2014 Gold Coast Young Chef Awards.
Timothy Stapleforth won the 2014 Gold Coast Young Chef Awards - which is part of the La Chain De Rottisseures. This international culinary association brings together amateurs and professionals who share a love of high quality food and wine.

Timothy is a third year apprentice chef who works at Chill on Teddar in Main Beach. Having won the prestigious Gold Coast award, he will now compete in the National Final for the La Chain De Rottisseures, in Perth on 27 June.

GCIT Chief Executive Officer, Aaron Devine, said Timothy has just completed his Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and is expected to finish his apprenticeship in the coming months.

“I congratulate Timothy on winning the 2014 Gold Coast Young Chef Awards where he showcased his outstanding culinary skills. This is a major accomplishment considering he was competing against already qualified chefs.

“I acknowledge the hard work, dedication and commitment that Timothy has put into his apprenticeship and training through GCIT. Such achievements are an example of the high quality training and development provided by GCIT to students.

“As with Timothy, we encourage students to participate in industry events, competitions and awards as a way of increasing their industry experience and exposure, and to give them a greater understanding of the high standards that are required to be a great chef,” he said.

GCIT is the premier training organisation for apprentice chefs in South East Queensland.

By working closely with the hospitality industry, GCIT is able to deliver high quality and flexible training that meets the industry’s needs and ensures students are job-ready when they graduate.

Mr Devine said that the Gold Coast is home to some of Australia’s best restaurants, therefore it is imperative that GCIT continues to keep pace with the ever-changing industry needs and requirements to ensure people have an excellent dining experience.
