Survey a chance for Aussie app makers to be counted

Announcement posted by Liquid State 02 May 2014

A new survey into worldwide mobile app development may leave Australians out in the cold.

Whether they’re games like Fruit Ninja and Flight Control, or handy utilities like OzTV, Australian apps are really taking off. With industry revenue estimated at AU$392 million in 2013 and forecast to grow, app developers and creators certainly seem to have a bright future ahead.

However, there are concerns that the Australian tendency to be self-effacing may be holding back greater opportunities for the industry. “Aussie app developers are doing a great job – the only problem is, no one outside the industry knows it,” says Philip Andrews, CEO of Brisbane based app publishing system Liquid State.

“I’m not saying they should all be driving around in Ferraris, but it’s time for app creators to stand up and be counted.”

Liquid State is helping to raise awareness of a global survey on the app economy currently being conducted by UK mobile industry analysts VisionMobile. The Developer Economics survey is one of the largest pieces of research into the app economy and the current survey has already recorded the highest number of responses since the project began.

“Australia and New Zealand haven’t had the best response rate in previous surveys, but now’s the time to change that,” explains Andrews. “We partnered with VisionMobile to promote the survey so Australia can let the world know how well our developers are doing.”

The 10 minute survey covers topics such as preferred app business models, platforms, and creation tools. Participants can see how they compare to others in their region or worldwide, as well as going into the draw to win prizes ranging from an iPhone 5s to a Lego Mindstorm robot.

The survey closes on Friday, May 9, and the results are made available for free via the VisionMobile website in July.

VisionMobile is the leading research company in the app economy and mobile business models. In addition to conducting the de-facto industry standard research on the app economy, the company helps clients re-apply the lessons learned from the telecom shake-up to other industries that are shifting as a result of rapid mobile adoption.

Liquid State is a cloud-based platform for securely distributing documents across iOS, Android and Windows Phone. Users can convert documents destined for print into branded apps for all three platforms. The company is an alumnus of Startupbootcamp Berlin and is a Microsoft Bizspark company.
