Gold Coast Institute of TAFE sets students up for career success

Highlighting the success of GCIT’s (Gold Coast Institute of TAFE) approach to education and vocational training, Events Graduate - Aly Magathas gone from visiting the Gold Coast Career’s Expo to managing the Expo.

Less than a year ago, Aly was studying the Events Diploma at GCIT and was a job seeker. Today, the shoe is on the other foot with Aly being one of the event organisers of this one-day expo that sees more than 5000 school seekers and job seekers attend.

Mr Devine said that Aly Magat is one of GCIT’s many success stories where students find employment within three months of graduating.

“GCIT is acutely aware of how fast-paced and hands-on the events industry is. Our students graduate with a greater range of skills and experience so that they have a better chance of finding employment in their chosen field,” Mr Devine said.

GCIT works with the industry and the events community to ensure training programs and qualifications are well aligned with workplace requirements. We are committed to our vocational placement strategy whereby students are required to do multiple placements during their course.

The Diploma in Events sets students up for career success.

Alysaid studying at GCIT not only gave her a thorough background on how the events industry operates and what’s required, but she experienced vocational placements with various businesses as well as project managing a live event at the Institute.

“The teachers are really well-connected so finding placements was not an issue. I finished the course having work experience.  My placements gave me a hands-on knowledge of how to operate in the workplace. Studying at GCIT was like a passport to my career,” Aly said.

“GCIT has a strong vocational placement strategy that ensures students get well-rounded knowledge and skills so they have a higher chance of employment. It is in everyone’s best interest to ensure we have a highly trained and competent workforce that meets the ever increasing needs of the tourism, events and hospitality industries,” Mr Devine said.
