All-terrain digital camera for the surf, snow and sand

Announcement posted by Ricoh Australia 06 Feb 2003

-Ricoh launches the first water and dust-resistant digital camera-
In February, Ricoh will launch Australias first water and dust-resistant digital camera in the three megapixel class. This latest addition to the Caplio family, the 300G, is essentially a water/dust-resistant version of the extremely popular Caplio RR30.
Durable and portable with a built-in 3x optical zoom, the 3.34 megapixel Caplio 300G features a reinforced glass dust protector for the lens, water/dust-resistant casing and rubber packing on opening parts and buttons. Grade seven equivalent JIS Japanese Industry Standard protection water resistance and grade six dust resistance make it ideal in wet, sandy or dusty environments.
Ernie Clark, Ricoh National Marketing Manager, Photographic Division, comments: This is truly an all-terrain digital camera and we expect that Australians who want to take pictures in extreme conditions will love it. It is ideal for taking on a boat, in the snow, on the sand and at race tracks as it is durable, water and dust-resistant unlike other digital cameras.
Ease of use in extreme conditions was a design priority with the Caplio 300G, so the shutter and other buttons are deliberately large enough to be operated in various conditions, even with gloves or goggles on. The frequently used functions are positioned independently for convenient use.
The Caplio 300G is designed to float and can be used underwater for a period of 30 minutes to a depth of one meter.
In addition to the built-in flash with red-eye reduction, an accessory shoe for an external flash is also available.
Like its dry-land cousin the Caplio RR30, which was launched in September 2002, the heavy duty and easy to use Caplio 300G boasts a shutter time of just 0.22 seconds, the fastest of any digital camera in its class, making it perfect for capturing action shots.
The Caplio 300G also shares other advanced features that have made the Caplio RR30 so popular. Six creative program modes and a clear LCD display make appropriate mode selection easy and allow for optimal results in all conditions.
The One Touch Review mode enables the user to instantly review the last shot taken on the bright LCD screen without having to change to playback mode. The Caplio 300G also has an optical viewfinder.
Using the li-ion battery included with purchase, the Caplio 300G can take up to 350 shots between charges with normal usage and up to 3,500 shots can be taken when operating with minimum power consumption. For improved versatility, it is also compatible with universally available conventional or rechargeable AA batteries or an AC Adapter.
Stylish, lightweight and featuring 1cm macro for close ups, video streaming plus continuous and interval shooting capabilities, the Caplio 300G has everything you would expect of a high-end digital camera with the added bonus of water and dust-resistance. USB and AV connection make viewing and downloading images easy.
The Caplio 300G is a versatile and robust digital camera that can be taken anywhere anytime to capture stunning, action-packed shots. It is as at home in the sand, snow, water and dust as it is in less extreme conditions.
RRP: $1,299 (Includes Rechargeable lithium battery and charger valued at $250). Ricoh digital cameras are available from specialists nationally. Contact 1300 363 741 or visit www.ricoh.com.au
