The Doors are Open on South Melbourne’s newest Boutique Hotel

Announcement posted by Dig & Fish 03 Jul 2014

July 3rd 2014

The doors to the Coppersmith are open today - a 15 room boutique hotel with a bistro, bar and roof top retreat, offering guests a local lifestyle, not just a room.

Located just minutes from Melbourne’s CBD and a stone’s throw from Albert Park Lake, Coppersmith on Clarendon St, South Melbourne, is intended as a home away from home for the busy traveller.

Room bookings are now open direct on the Coppersmith website or via phone with standard room rates starting at $220 per night for a Queen Room.
Coppersmith is a sophisticated urban retreat - from touchdown to turndown it’s luxury on an intimate scale. The venue has complimentary WiFi throughout and all rooms have their own Foxtel units which allow guests to record and watch their favourite programs. A variety of mini bar options, Nespresso machines in each room, USB ports and top end amenities all contribute to making guests feel right at home.

Downstairs the Coppersmith bar and bistro is a welcome retreat for hotel guests, local residents and business guests. A focus on local and crafted product, the bar has 18 taps featuring 14 of the best craft beers and ciders from Australia and Victoria, a thoughtful wine list and menu options from breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as light meals and snacks.

Bar and bistro menus take their inspiration from traditional pub fare with a modern interpretation. Head Chef Daniel Southern has created guaranteed house favourites on both menus such as ‘Venison – rump & shank, sloe gin, lentils & quince’, ‘Coppersmith fish pie’ and ‘Grilled Wagyu tri-tip Bordelaise sauce & cress’ and a ‘Classically served Wiener schnitzel’. For those after some rarer delicacies, the menu features dishes like ‘Bone marrow, soused shallots & red wine’ and ‘Lamb sweetbreads, winter vegetables & confit lemon’.

The redesign of the former South Melbourne local, the Cricket Club Hotel, is the vision of George and Con Bagios, hospitality veterans from Western Australia. George said “We’ve always loved Melbourne and purchased the Cricket Club Hotel in 2006 with the idea of creating a classic small hotel, a neighbourhood hang-out, part of the local lifestyle, a community. We offer the very best in service with experienced and engaging staff - we’re all about simple things done well.”

“We wanted to honour the history of the building and create an outstanding guest experience so we partnered with international design practice HASSELL on the architecture and leading marketing agency Dig&Fish on the brand development, marketing and communications.”

Not forgetting the rooftop which offers wonderful views of a picturesque Melbourne skyline. An urban retreat, the space allows for up to 40 cocktail guests who can enjoy both bar and bistro menus.

Coppersmith is located at 435 Clarendon St, South Melbourne. Guests are now able to book their stay at the Coppersmith.

ABOUT COPPERSMITH

Coppersmith is named after Ebenezer Drummond Menzies Thompson, a coppersmith by trade and proprietor of a plumbing business, who lived in the area his entire life and was Mayor of South Melbourne between 1913 - 1914. An active member of the community and local sporting clubs we believe Coppersmith embodies all that he loved about the area.

Coppersmith (formerly known as the Cricket Club Hotel) is the newest development for Bagios Holdings who for more than 26 years have owned and operated hospitality venues in Victoria and Western Australia. The redesign of the former pub is the brainchild of George Bagios, while design is being overseen by Hassell Architects. The vision is to re-craft the site as a modern five star boutique hotel, bar and bistro with a rooftop space.
