RISING BASKETBALL TALENT JARRAD WEEKS SIGNS WITH GERMAN TEAM FOR 2014-2015 SEASON

Announcement posted by Closer Communications 09 Jul 2014

Australia is losing another rising basketball talent, with young playmaker Jarrad Weeks agreeing to terms with German team Ehingen Urspring. Weeks will compete as one of their imports in the upcoming Basketball Bundesliga ProA season that runs at the same time as the NBL, and will see Weeks depart Australia mid-August to commence pre-season training with the team.

Weeks impressed his new team’s coaching staff during the recent Sydney Kings team tour to China in May. He was a standout contributor in the side against the China B team, a US side and his new German team.

24 year old Weeks has spent the last four seasons with the Sydney Kings, both as a development player and then regular squad member. He has seen regular court time over the last two seasons in particular, often providing a much-needed spark off the bench and defensive intensity.

“I am very happy that Jarrad will join our team next season. He can give the team a lot on the court and I am really excited to work with him." said Michael Spöcker, Head Coach of Team Ehingen Urspring.

“Jarrad had an outstanding tour and was a standout for us. Our opponents were very impressed with him so we weren’t surprised to hear of this interest from Germany,” said Damian Cotter, Head Coach of the Sydney Kings.

“While he was certainly in the mix again for our consideration this season, we fully support his decision to take up this exciting offer and wish him all the best for a successful season and experience” he continued.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to grow as a player and person. This international experience is crucial in my development, and my new team is known in Europe for having helped many players elevate their game to another level, which fits squarely with my own goals,” said Weeks.

“It was also gratifying for my performances in an international tournament to be recognised, especially when playing alongside other high calibre players including regular NBL starters.”

Weeks is proudly represented by David Wolf of Closer Talent Management.
