The industrys best-selling PC disk partitioning software earns coveted PC Magazine Editors Choice Award
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced Norton PartitionMagic 8.0, the newest addition to Symantecs family of award-winning solutions for consumers. Norton PartitionMagic 8.0, which Symantec obtained through the acquisition of PowerQuest Corporation, has been a worldwide leader in the partitioning utility category since its introduction in 1995 and recently earned the coveted PC Magazine Editors Choice designation for partitioning solutions in the June 8, 2004, issue of the publication.
Norton PartitionMagic 8.0 lets users create, resize, move, split, merge, undelete and convert disk partitions quickly and easily while protecting the integrity of their data. Now Symantec customers can benefit from the products power to separate and protect user data and system files, optimize PC performance and run multiple operating systems. Users also benefit with larger partition support, which gives them the ability to create partitions up to 300 GB when the partition is less than 90 percent full.
Hard drive partitioning is an essential part of system maintenance. It prevents conflicts, protects data, improves efficiency and increases performance, said Don Kleinschnitz, vice president of product delivery, enterprise administration, Symantec Corp. The addition of Norton PartitionMagic 8.0 to Symantecs line of solutions strengthens our commitment to protecting and improving consumers computing experience.
Disk partitioning reduces the risk of data loss if the system crashes as each partition works just like a separate hard drive. Separating data into smaller partitions also helps improve a computers efficiency and simplifies backups. Norton PartitionMagic 8.0s ability to divide the data and OS portions of a computers hard drive makes maintenance functions, such as disk scanning and defragmenting, run much faster. The user interface offers an easy-to-use file browser that allows users to browse, copy or move files and folders from one partition or OS to another. Users can also manage files in hidden partitions. A step-by-step wizard provides a guide to performing partitioning tasks and viewing pending operations before implementing them.
Norton PartitionMagic 8.0 supports various file systems (NTFS, FAT 32, FAT, Linux Ext2 and Linux Ext3), allowing users to load and run multiple operating systems, or even multiple versions of the same operating system, on the same computer without conflict. This is a helpful tool for those who want to try a new operating system without giving up their old OS. A helpful wizard walks users through the process of setting up another OS. BootMagic, a tool included in Norton PartitionMagic 8.0, lets users choose which OS the computer will boot up in the next time the system starts up.
Pricing and Availability
Norton PartitionMagic 8.0 is available now at www.SymantecStore.com and at select retailers for an estimated retail price of US$69.95. Users of PartitionMagic 7.0 or earlier may upgrade to Norton PartitionMagic 8.0 for an estimated retail price of US $49.95 through a US $20 mail in rebate.
