Sydney’s top chefs demonstrate delicious delicacies at Open Day

Announcement posted by William Angliss Institute 03 Sep 2014

3 September  - Movida Sydney’s head chef James Campbell and Bondi Icebergs head chef Monty Koludrovic will stage live cooking demonstrations to show off their culinary skills at the upcoming William Angliss Institute Sydney Open Day on 13 September.

James is a graduate of William Angliss Institute and Monty has been a mentor and employer of student apprentices from the National Indigenous Culinary Institute’s (NICI) programs which partners with William Angliss Institute.

In addition to these demonstrations, on Open Day William Angliss Institute Sydney is set to showcase its amazing career opportunities in foods, tourism, hospitality and events at the Surry Hills campus. An extensive line-up of hands-on activities will give students the chance to learn about the opportunities careers in the foods, tourism, hospitality and events industries hold.

William Angliss Institute Sydney Open Day will showcase:

·        ‘Trial-a-Trade’ sessions - students gain hands-on experience, introducing them to the working life of a patissier, chef or barista. This is a great chance to get into a practical, professional environment and learn about how to create the perfect French macaron or latte.

·        Course Information Sessions - fromcommercial cookery to the new one-year triple diploma in tourism and travel, events and hospitality. Students and parents will be able to talk to experts about the right course for their chosen career path.

·        The newly built training restaurant, a location for students to serve their latest culinary creations. On the day attendees will have a chance to suggest a name for the venue and enter a prize draw for the winning suggestion. The new name will be announced during the official launch of the restaurant later this year.

·        The launch of the next student intake for the NICI where young indigenous people have the opportunity to complete apprenticeships in the kitchens of Sydney’s top restaurants and train at the Institute.

In the lead up to Open Day students are encouraged to upload a photo or video that represents their ideal career using the hashtag #lovemycareer and go into a draw to win a share of prizes including JB Hi Fi, General Pants and Village Cinemas vouchers.

For students looking for a job away from the desk, where they can learn from industry experts and start their career before they finish studying – it all starts at William Angliss Institute. For more information, visit www.angliss.edu.au
