How Induction Bending Technology Meets Plant Maintenance and Piping Industry Time Pressure Needs

Announcement posted by Bendpro 25 Sep 2014

Bendpro commenced selling induction bends some years ago through its Durabend range of solutions. Today, an increasing number of industries seek this technology to satisfy maintenance and other application needs.

The latest induction bending technology is enabling precision control of the conditions required for heating and cooling narrow sections of steel pipe to ensure a more stable quality and shape. From start to finish, the bending process is continuous and highly automated.

Induction bending uses inductors to locally heat steel by induction, resulting in a narrow heat band in the shape to be bent. The shape is pushed through the inductor by an accurate drive system which causes the hot section to form the bend at the set radius. The resulting bent component is then cooled by water, forced or still air to fix the bend shape.

Bendpro's induction bends find their way into multiple industries, including petrochemical, chemical, oil and gas, compressor and pump stations, shipbuilding and construction. The technology allows bending of virtually an unlimited variety of materials including carbon steels, high alloyed steels, fine grain steels and stainless steels.

Bendpro stocks the full range of Durabend products – 3D and 5D radius pipe bends (stocked in sizes from 100NB to 400NB) as well as 1.5D butt-weld elbows, in both STD and XS gauge. Mandrel bending is also used to achieve the same results on small pipe sizes. Formed by hot induction bending to the strictest tolerances, these induction bends ensure full accuracy and quality of product every time.

"Every bend leaving Bendpro's facility has full quality and material certificates available on request to ensure complete client satisfaction," said Bendpro's Managing Director, Joseph Rowland. "Importantly, most sizes are stocked in house and available off the shelf, with the majority of orders being processed and dispatched within the same day and delivered Australia wide."

"This is invaluable for those in the field, where traditional lead-times can stretch out as much as four weeks," added Rowland. "Importantly, Durabend products meet two important criteria in the plant maintenance and piping industry - quality and rapid delivery. All material traceability and quality assurance [QA] requirements are met and documentation is available to support each bend sold."
