A Hero’s Send Off

Announcement posted by Feros Care 04 Oct 2014

Feros Hero and Over 80s Australian Women’s Tennis Team Captain, Margaret Fisher, was given a “hero’s” send off this week, to celebrate her departure for the ITF Super Seniors World Tennis Championships in Turkey, this month.

At a special breakfast, Margaret, and fellow over 80s Feros Heroes Keith Castle and Beverley Yeomans, met for the first time to discuss what it is to be a Feros Hero, their achievements and the importance of celebrating ageing.

Feros Care’s chief executive Jennene Buckley said the active trio exemplified the Feros ethos of encouraging seniors to embrace the freedoms ageing can bring, growing bolder not older.

“Our Heroes demonstrate every day the importance of saluting and celebrating seniors who are 80 plus – recognizing the incredible asset that age, wisdom and knowledge brings to the community.”

Whether they are making a significant difference in the community or displaying good character, Feros Heroes are seniors who consistently exhibit dedication, selflessness and positive leadership. They are outstanding seniors who inspire and motivate others every day with an optimistic outlook.

Margaret says she feels stronger at 83 than she did in her mid-50s. It was only two years ago, at the age of 81, Margaret became the over-80s Australian Super Seniors Tennis Champion – the year before that, she hadn’t picked up a racket for 20 years.

Margaret, Keith and Beverly were each presented with a Feros Heroes certificate and a framed photograph of their Feros magazine cover.
While all three Fero Heroes share a similar lust for living and a “best is yet to come” attitude, their interests are as varied as their backgrounds.

Former Feros Chairman of the Board member, Keith continues to use his business acumen to provide valuable governance support to community based organisations and not for profits through his volunteer roles. Beverly is a kayak-racing champion in pursuit of a gold medal for kayaking at the Master’s Games, with a passion for helping others.

Ms Buckley described the Feros Heroes trio as inspirational and enthusiastic, reinventing ageing as we know it.

“They fit perfectly with the Feros Care philosophy that ageing can be an opportunity for new beginnings,” Ms Buckley said.
