Mazenod College Turns to the Power of the Sun

Announcement posted by SolarMax 07 Oct 2014

Melbourne, Australia, 7th October 2014: Mazenod College announced today that it has commissioned Australia’s largest rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) installation for a college totalling 270kW on its campus in Mulgrave, Victoria.

The project is being led by Mazenod College’s appointed installation partner, Enervest who will supply a range of SolarMax grid connected inverters comprising of six 15MT2, six 10MT2, eight 13MT2, two 3000P, one 4000P inverter, and one MaxMeteo with over 1,000 ReneSola Virtus II PID-Free PV panels.

The solar PV system is expected to generate an average of 330MWh of solar power annually and is expected to provide close to 50 percent of the College’s energy requirements. This will result in significant annual savings for Mazenod College and reduce its reliance on electricity from the grid. The system is projected to reduce the College’s carbon emissions by 455 tonne every year and deliver an internal rate of return (IRR) of up to 28 percent per annum.

Fr Michael Twigg OMI, Principal of Mazenod College said, “Mazenod College has made an investment in solar power because we have a responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint for the benefit of future generations. The school is conscious that the initial outlays will bring financial benefits both now and into the future, and our working families understand the value of well considered projects for the schools future growth.”

“Through this project, we would like to raise the social awareness amongst our students and spread the word to the wider community that we can all play a part in living a more sustainable lifestyle. We are pleased to be working with Enervest, ReneSola Australia and SolarMax and we hope this inspires education institutions to make the switch to solar for a clean energy future.”

Ross Warby, Managing Director of Enervest said, “We are delighted to be appointed by Mazenod College to deliver Australia’s largest rooftop solar photovoltaic for a college. As we worked through the scoping of this project, we identified a number of design challenges which we will overcome by working together with our partners, ReneSola and SolarMax.”

Gavin Merchant, Sales Manager for SolarMax Australia and New Zealand said, “Mazenod College has made a significant investment in a solar photovoltaic system that will contribute to its energy requirements for many years. With SolarMax, we are confident the College will achieve a high level of efficiency with our inverters and a reliable supply of energy for many years to come.”

Derek Marsden, General Manager of ReneSola Australia said, “Mazenod College is at the forefront of Victoria’s colleges by choosing to invest in a solar system. In a time where many education providers are faced with rising cost pressures, solar power is a viable solution that pays off right from the start quite apart from the obvious educational benefits for their students.”

To help students at Mazenod College learn about how solar power contributes to their energy consumption, Enervest will utilise SolarMax’s remote monitoring platform which includes MaxMeteo, a solar irradiation sensor and MaxWeb. This will allow the College to access the SolarMax WebPortal to get a real-time display of performance data such as input and output voltages, input and output currents, frequency, device temperature and yield over the internet.

Stage one of Mazenod College’s solar PV system will commence in mid-October, with stages two and three to begin soon after. The entire rollout is expected to be completed by late January 2015.

SolarMax’s MT series inverters are easy to install, reliable and designed to last. With a maximum efficiency of up to 98 percent, these inverters are suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations. The MT series inverters satisfy the safety requirements stated in AS/NZS 5033:2012 standards (IEC 62109-1/-2) as well as the AS 4777.2 and AS 4777.3 standards. SolarMax products are accredited by the Clean Energy Council (CEC). All SolarMax string inverters have a five year standard warranty which can be extended up to 25 years.

Clean Technology Partners completed all the electrical and structural engineering, and the grid connection approvals.
ReneSola Virtus II PID-Free panels are a top performer as reiterated by Photon International Gmbh. With premium silicon wafers, EVA encapsulants and low-iron tempered glass eliminate Potential Induced Degradation (PID Free) ensuring a longer lasting panel. All ReneSola Australia panels come with this premium feature to offer our end users a higher long term yield from their solar PV system.
