Haikou Airport implements 4K-UHD

Announcement posted by Intersystems Group 17 Oct 2014

After confirming our ability to support the 4K-UHD display technology last month, Haikou Meilan International Airport (HAK) in China put it to the test successfully implementing 4K-UHD resolutions in their large format FIDS screens.

The large format Flight Information Display System (FIDS) screens feature a combination of flight information, a split-flap style clock and infomedia all driven by the GMC8 digital display controller

"On such large screens, the difference between FHD and UHD is clear, what's instantly noticeable is how sharp the image is from further away," commented Simon Fu, Operations Manager in Asia.

"We've seen some push back from airports to justify the advantages over the costs of 4K-UHD displays," commented Bruce Allen, CEO of Intersystems.

"However, we've consistently noted that initially, the real value will be in large format displays where you want to do unique things like split-flap emulation - this is tricky to achieve at FHD resolution and difficult, to say the least, at lower resolutions."
