More than $215,000 raised for Starlight Children's Foundation & Giant Steps
38 seriously ill children and their families as well as 15 autistic children have benefited from funds raised through the 2002 IT Fund for Kids 'Putting IT Back' campaign.
26 IT&T organisations including vendors, communications companies, industry associations and publishing houses across Australia helped to raise more than $215,000 for the campaign. Funds are directed to the Starlight Children's Foundation, and Giant Steps, a school for children with autism.
Jill Weekes, CEO of the Starlight Children's Foundation, believes the continued generosity of participating companies is testament to the strong community spirit that still exists in a market that has been very testing over recent years.
"It really has been a terrific effort by the Australian IT&T industry again this year. This is the third 'Putting IT Back' campaign and has enabled us to help many more seriously ill and autistic children - what an achievement," said Ms Weekes. "We are delighted with the support the 2002 campaign has received, and thank the IT & T community for its continued support."
In 2002, in addition to funds donated from their pay, participating employees got creative with their fund raising efforts. They included festive parties, product auctions and office BBQs as key 'Putting IT Back' activities. Internal 'champions' drove the fund raising efforts and worked with IT Fund for Kids to educate staff on exactly where their money was going.
Companies involved in 'Putting IT Back' 2002 include: AIIA, Alcatel, Business Objects, CheckPoint Software Technologies Australia, Cisco Systems, Citrix, Cognos, CSC, Dimension Data, Elan IT Recruitment, EMC Corporation, Gartner Australasia, Howorth Communications, IBM, Intel, Intergraph, McCorkell and Associates, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia, Nortel Networks, Novell Pty Ltd, Oracle Corporation, Powerlan, Telstra Mobile, VeriSign, Volante Group.
IT Fund for Kids would also like to thank Dimension Data, Howorth Communications, Web Central, Penton Media (now part of AJB Publishing), ZDNet Australia, The Australian newspaper and IDG Communications for their additional support in making this campaign a success.
