Daylesford Highland Gathering launches the Highland Gathering Season

Central Victoria’s Daylesford is known for its fine food and wine, its mineral springs and its luxury accommodation.

On the first Saturday in December, Daylesford becomes known for its tartan, its kilts, its bagpipes, dancers, shortbread and Clan Tents when Daylesford Highland Gathering takes over.

“We are fortunate to launch the new season in Daylesford every year”, President, Keith Pyers said.

“It is not just a spectacular vision it’s a feast for the senses.

“For many, the sound of the bagpipes makes the hair stand up on the back of their neck, others may suddenly notice tears on their cheeks.

The gathering commences with a street parade featuring Victoria’s best pipers and highland bands in Daylesford’s main street with hundreds of spectators, many in kilts, lining the footpaths.

The town and particularly, Victoria Park, is at its best. Spring is still with us and all the trees are in leaf.

The entertainment then moves to Victoria Park which is a celebration of all things Celtic. A sea of kilts and tartan set amongst piping competitions, highland dancing competitions, massed bands and of course, Celtic food tents.

The famous clan village is popular for its Celtic memorabilia displays and the opportunity to look up your Celtic roots and become familiar with your clan history. And if you are lucky, you will get a whiskey while you browse.

“This year the Rolls Royce Club is back to add to the spectacle. It is well worth coming to see the very latest Rolls Royce cars alongside some of the oldest in a stunning landscape surrounded by music, dancing and plenty of joy.

“We have not missed a gathering since we opened in 1952,” Keith added. And its ability to conjure up Scotland in Daylesford continues to captivate all of us.”
