Bringing Reg Lindsay Home To Stand Tall

Announcement posted by The Audacious Agency 17 Nov 2014

A lasting tribute to country music legend Reg Lindsay will be cast in bronze as a salute to his outstanding contribution to the industry. ’

Ros Lindsay, Reg’s wife, said she commissioned a life-size statue as her way of keeping alive his name.

“Reg loved what he did, country music flowed through his veins. You do not last over 50 years in an industry without a passion for it,” she said.

“The Reg Lindsay ‘Standing Tall’ bronze statue will take pride of place at East Cessnock Bowling Club next March.”

The statue was crafted by sculptor Tessa Wallis at her workshop in Kew, Victoria.

The weekend of the unveiling will be a huge one for Cessnock with a street parade honouring Reg, followed by the 21st anniversary of Reg Lindsay’s rodeo/music re-union on Saturday 7 March 2015 at Cessnock Racetrack.

The unveiling of the bronze statue will take place on Sunday 8 March.

Ros said her goal is to bring Reg to a new generation. “Reg Lindsay was a trailblazer of the Australian country music scene. He wrote over 500 songs, produced over 60 albums, and ARIA and Logie winner and recognised internationally,” she said.

“He was not just a musician – he wrote and produced songs, was a voice on radio and had  award winning TV programs – The Country and Western Hour from Adelaide studio and also Reg. Lindsay country Homestead show from Channel 9 Brisbane.

“I want to bring his music to a new legion of fans.  His music is timeless.”

Ros said Reg passed away in 2008 but his contribution to music lives on. “He stood tall in life and will stand tall forever in Cessnock,” she said.

“Cessnock was a place Reg called home; I still live in the area so it is only right for the statue to settle there.”

The cost of the statue is $55,000 and so far more than $37,000 has been raised.

Donations to help finish the statue can be made to the Reg Lindsay Statue Fund at the Commonwealth Bank (BSB 062805, account number 10334085).

Any donations over $100 will receive the latest Reg Lindsay CD “No Stone Unturned” plus a VIP invitation to the official unveiling of the statue.
