eVideo Videoconferencing Virus warning

Announcement posted by eVideo 25 Nov 2014

Viruses affecting Videoconferencing systems in Australia and Globally

Sydney, Australia,  Date: 25th November  2014

eVideo today wishes to announce growing concerns regarding various viruses that are attacking videoconferencing systems throughout Australia.

Viruses named Shellshock, Heartbleed, & Poodle are causing serious software vulnerability  with  privacy modes and other system changes on videoconferencing systems.

eVideo advises that the bug/viruses could be exploited to compromise millions of servers and other devices ( videoconferencing )  worldwide.

We still don’t know how wide and costly the problem will be, but we already know that Shellshock is more serious than the Heartbleed vulnerability that received wide attention back in April.

Shellshock allows an attacker much more power. They can use it to take complete control of a system even without having a username and password. Exploitation of the vulnerability is simple and doesn’t require advanced skills.

Lifesize one of eVideo’s videoconferencing vendors have taken a forward position in releasing its latest software which includes a patch for the Shellshock Vulnerability as well as a vulnerability known as Poodle

eVideo are warning all of its customers that it is important to have the most up to date software on their videoconferencing systems  together with an eVideo managed service maintenance contract to protect against these bugs/Viruses now and in the future.

Tom Morgan, CEO and Managing Director  of  eVideo Communications said:    “ Many of our customers have let their eVideo eCare Maintenance contracts lapse thinking that everything will be ok but as announced today these Bugs/Viruses are causing vulnerability, disruption, and possible communication breakdown in our customers vital videoconferencing interaction both in Australia and Globally”
