NBN Television announces the retirement of Mike Rabbitt

Announcement posted by Thurnham Teece 01 Jan 1970

After more than 21 years as Promotions Manager for NBN Television, Mike Rabbitt is retiring from his role as of December 12, 2014 but will remain presenting sport for NBN News and compering NBN events for 2015 and beyond.

Mike, in his role as Promotions Manager for NBN, has forged many relationships and worked in collaboration with many organisations in the business, sporting and general community. Mike has made a significant contribution, not only to NBN in his many roles, but to the wider Northern NSW and Gold Coast community over these years, and in 2013 was deservedly awarded an Order of Australian Medal (OAM) in recognition of his outstanding service to the community. Mike has given so much of his own time to NBN and others in compering and supporting a variety of events, promotions, charities, fundraisers and sporting groups.

Mike, the ‘face’ of NBN Sport for 30 years, a popular and talented on air presenter, commentator and compere, has brought much passion and knowledge in commentating sport from across the globe, such as the Commonwealth Games in 2006 and 2010, to a career highlight in calling the local Knights’ games. In fact Mike could call a backyard cricket match and make it a ‘sensational’ event and experience for everyone.

Mike has a passion for all sport and a great interest, admiration and respect for all codes and athletes, from the disadvantaged to the elite.

“NBN Television has been my life and I could not have asked for a better company to work for. It has provided everything to me and I hope I have given some back from time to time”, said Mr. Rabbitt. “I have met so many wonderful people, both sport and community and I will always be grateful of being transferred to Newcastle in 1980, what a great City. Thank you for being part of my journey and I hope I can catch up and reminisce about days of old and also the future, whatever that may hold.”

Deborah Wright, CEO of NBN Television said “Congratulations to Mike on his stellar career and a ‘huge’ thank you to him for his wonderful contribution to NBN over the past 30 years. I am delighted, as will be our viewers, that Mike will continue to present sport for NBN News and compere NBN events for next year and beyond as he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team.”
