Office Supply Leader Deploys EMC Automated Networked Storage to Achieve Greater ROI, Increase Storage Capacity, Lower Management Costs
EMC Corporation announced today that OfficeMax, Inc. (NYSE: OMX), one of the nation's leading office supply retailers, has implemented the latest version of the EMC ControlCentre* family of storage management software to centrally monitor and manage both EMC and non-EMC storage distributed across the United States.
OfficeMax is extremely focused on advanced technology to ensure it captures every potential sale through its stores, web sites and catalogs. The retailer's supply chain and systems enhancements have enabled it to increase in-stock merchandise levels to more than 98 per cent and reduce inventory costs by hundreds of millions of dollars. OfficeMax's deployment of EMC Automated Networked Storage also has allowed it to achieve a 100 per cent return on investment and increase storage capacity by 40 per cent.
Based in Cleveland, Ohio, OfficeMax utilises an 80-terabyte EMC networked storage infrastructure. At the corporate data centre, an EMC Symmetrix* storage area network (SAN) provides consolidated storage to OfficeMax's SAP R/3 application - SAP's largest site in the retail industry - and Manugistics software for sales, inventory and distribution. OfficeMax's information infrastructure continues to push its operational execution to new heights through better storage scalability, management and availability without increasing costs.
OfficeMax's advanced and flexible information infrastructure is a strong example of the benefits of open software. With EMC ControlCentre, OfficeMax has extended management of its Symmetrix SAN to encompass three EMC CLARiiON SANs at regional PowerMax distribution centres and a fourth location where EMC Symmetrix is installed to run OfficeMax's web site operations. OfficeMax also plans to use ControlCentre to manage a non-EMC storage system for a data warehouse. OfficeMax's use of Symmetrix and CLARiiON in different locations underscores the choice and flexibility customers have when matching EMC networked storage to their broad range of storage requirements.
