Giam Swiegers joins Aurecon

New Executive Committee appointments announced

Giam Swiegers will join Aurecon as Global Chief Executive Officer, based in the company’s Sydney office, on Monday 2 February 2015.

As of this date, Aurecon’s Executive Committee will grow to 12 members, with the promotion of four executives to the new role of Managing Director for each of Aurecon’s four key markets:

·         Clive Ross, Managing Director, Advisory & Asset Management

·         James Bennett, Managing Director, Built Environment

·         Glenn Hooper, Managing Director, Energy & Resources

·         Geoff Linke, Managing Director, Infrastructure

Giam said, “These promotions to Aurecon’s Executive Committee support our focus on client centricity and market growth. These are four very senior executives who will have a significant impact on Aurecon’s success.”

The new Managing Directors will join Aurecon’s four Regional Managing Directors as well as the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Business Development Officer on the Executive Committee.

Aurecon has also promoted Liam Hayes to the role of Chief People Officer, reporting directly to Giam Swiegers. “I will work closely with Liam to continue Aurecon’s focus on leadership development and to ensure we are energising and growing the significant talent that exists across Aurecon to drive growth around and beyond our excellent core design and engineering business,” said Giam.

Giam joins Aurecon from his previous role as Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte Australia after a highly successful 12 years.

“Giam has a superb track record as a CEO and is a great cultural fit for us as a business. His accomplishments in building a great culture and an agile, growing business are a great strategic fit for us as an expanding global business,” Teddy Daka, Global Chairman, said.

Giam began his career as an auditor with Deloitte in South Africa, and subsequently worked for Deloitte in the USA before returning to become Managing Partner of its Tshwane office.

He moved to Australia in 1997 and became CEO on 1 June 2003. Deloitte won both the Accounting Firm of the Year and the Audit Firm of the Year in the Australian Financial Review CFO Awards 2013-2014, with judges highlighting Deloitte’s innovation and agility.

About the Managing Directors

Clive Ross is Managing Director, Advisory & Asset Management which includes Aurecon’s Environment, Advisory, Asset Management, Government and Data & Telecommunications offerings.  Clive was previously Aurecon's Head of Asset Management and is based in the company’s Brisbane office. 

Clive is committed to supporting Aurecon’s clients to extract maximum value from their asset portfolios across all phases of the asset lifecycle, and will be working to maximise client engagement across the company’s full advisory and asset management offering.  Clive joined Aurecon from Forge Group, where he was responsible for growing the Asset Management business in Australia, Africa and the USA. Prior to this, Clive worked for many years with UGL, latterly as Executive General Manager, Asset Services Group, which provided maintenance, turnarounds and capital works services to a range of clients across the mining, minerals processing and hydrocarbons sectors.  Clive has also worked extensively within the manufacturing sector, having held maintenance and engineering leadership roles with PaperlinX, Silcar and CSR.

James Bennett is Managing Director, Built Environment and is focussed on providing client service excellence in the delivery of high performing buildings/precincts which respond and adapt to future needs.

James has 29 years of international experience in the industry.  He was previously Buildings Service Group Leader, managing a team of around 1,000 staff across 10 countries delivering projects such as the AUD 2bn Sunshine Coast University Hospital and the 620m tall Shanghai Tower. Prior to this, James was Manager of Aurecon’s Victoria Region, re-joining the firm after 6 years based in London with Mott MacDonald where he was Division Manager for its Buildings Group in South East England and the Middle East.  In the UK he had management responsibility for projects such as Wembley Stadium, on which he was also Project Director, Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport and the Mall of Emirates in Dubai. James is also a Director of Aurecon Australasia Pty Ltd and a Fellow of Engineers Australia.

Glenn Hooper is Managing Director, Energy & Resources, which includes Resources, Oil & Gas, Energy and Manufacturing. 

Glenn has held business management positions at a local (Queensland), regional (Asia Pacific) and global level. Most recently he was Service Group Leader for Resources & Manufacturing, where he was responsible for the delivery of services to clients in the resources, oil and gas and manufacturing sectors. Glenn is currently a Director of Aurecon Group Pty Ltd.

Glenn has over 30 years of experience in the planning, design and delivery of consulting services and projects for clients in heavy industry. In recent years, Glenn has worked extensively in front end studies and EPCM delivery of major projects, and has been the project director for numerous projects with capital values in excess of AUD 1 billion. This work has ranged across mine developments, ports, oil and gas facilities and manufacturing plants.

Geoff Linke is Managing Director, Infrastructure, which includes Transport and Water.

Geoff is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and has held senior roles in the public and private sectors, with over 20 years of experience as a practising engineer. Since joining Aurecon in 2013, Geoff has managed Aurecon’s Adelaide / Melbourne Delivery Centre where he was responsible for optimising performance and driving growth. Prior to joining Aurecon, Geoff was the General Manager, Strategy at Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) where he led the firm’s strategic planning programme over two years, introducing rigorous strategic processes from the board down, and building a global investment portfolio across targeted markets, geographies and services. In previous roles, he was General Manager, Water and Environment and Regional Manager Queensland at SKM.
