TRADITIONAL INDUSTRY ON THE MOVE

Announcement posted by INTEC Commercial Upholstery 16 Feb 2015

SYDNEY- while there is continued talk about the demise of manufacturing in Australia, nothing could be further from the truth for one of Sydney’s oldest commercial upholstery companies. INTEC Commercial Upholstery, founded in 1963, continues to go from strength to strength. Currently working on one of the largest development projects, Barangaroo on the shores of Sydney Harbour, INTEC Commercial Upholstery CEO, Clayton Davis, said “We have been delighted with the level of forward orders spreading from Sydney across to WA and as far north as Cairns. With this in mind, and as a further sign of our confidence in the Brisbane and Gold Coast markets INTEC is opening a production facility in Yatala, South East Queensland.

In revealing his plans for expansion into the Queensland market Mr. Davis took the opportunity to reflect on his personal highlights from so many years at the helm of INTEC, “manufacturing the lounge furniture for the Prime Ministers office in Canberra was an obvious highlight although with so many great projects I sometimes feel like there is isn’t a large upholstery project we have not been part of.”

“Opening in Queensland is very exciting for us, we have enjoyed working on so many projects in Queensland for various Architects, Joiners and Hotels it sometimes feels like we have already been in Queensland for years”.

The opening of the Queensland facility continues a strong family connection with Clayton’s brother Luke taking the reigns as Queensland State Manager. With an industry worth over $8 billion dollars at a manufacturing level and employing over 80,000 people, in the view of INTEC, the Australian industry can adapt and deliver a serious counter to the imported furniture market which in their view is struggling to deliver consistent quality and supportive warranties, whereas the Australian manufacturers are capable of customizing items at the highest standard and aftermarket support that the market expects.
