Alcatel launches next-generation wireless data infrastructure offering and voice over WLAN products

Announcement posted by Alcatel-Lucent 04 Mar 2004

Move strengthens Alcatels enterprise data and voice mobility offering with no compromise approach to wireless data solutions
Alcatel has today added next-generation Wireless LAN products to its range of convergence-ready LAN switches and IP-PBXs. The new products deliver the industrys most comprehensive, standards-based wired and wireless converged mobility solution offering.
Leveraging its leadership in IP telephony, data switches built for mobility and convergence, wireless technologies and communication applications, Alcatel delivers more services and capabilities on fewer platforms and fewer infrastructures to access business applications and resources.
Alcatels next-generation enterprise WLAN convergence offering is built upon proven technology and lets Alcatel offer the industrys broadest and most secure enterprise mobility solution on the market today.
This WLAN solution is a key component of Alcatels vision of providing best-value convergence solutions to customers, said Simon Rachowski, product manager for Alcatels Enterprise Solutions activities in Australia. Customers are demanding availability, security, manageability and mobility regardless of whether it is a fixed or wireless network.
This product is unique to the market because of its wireless protection and management. It is well placed to serve markets like education, retail, manufacturing and healthcare.
Alcatels WLAN solution empowers users with secure and mobile network access without boundaries. These new Alcatel products include OmniAccess 1200 Access Points and OmniAccess 4000 wireless LAN switches and appliances.
They complement Alcatels existing range of data and voice mobility offerings, which include wired dynamic and authenticated user mobility, voice-only digital wireless systems, and unified communications applications. This comprehensive range of mobile solutions allows Alcatel to meet the diverse needs of enterprises as they empower their mobile workforce.
This OmniAccess Wireless LAN product family provides the industrys most up-to-date platform for real-time applications and services. It comes equipped with security standards essential for creating secure network environments and is 802.11i-ready for next-generation wireless security support. Coupled with the OmniSwitch familys reputation for value leadership in highly available, secure, and easily managed networks, it redefines the next-generation enterprise network infrastructure.
Further supporting Alcatels WLAN convergence offering, Alcatel will ship Alcatel Mobile IP Touch 300 and 600 wireless phones later this year. Designed to meet the communication needs for enterprises of any size and across a range of vertical markets, the Alcatel Mobile IP Touch telephones act as extensions of the Alcatel OmniPCX family of IP-PBXs to provide access to enterprise-class communication features and services. They use the IEEE 802.11b global standard to operate as client devices on a single wireless infrastructure.
Alcatel Mobile IP Touch phones complement Alcatels wide range of voice mobility solutions allowing enterprises to choose the solution that best fits their needs.
Alcatels WLAN strategy is the next building block in delivering the industrys most comprehensive enterprise convergence offering, said Simon Rachowski.
Our heritage in mobile technologies, our leadership in converged infrastructures, and our strategy to deliver and support next-generation business applications makes us the only global enterprise player equipped to deliver a truly comprehensive, standards-based enterprise WLAN convergence offering.
