Announcement posted by Legato Systems Inc. 15 Oct 2003

Demonstrates continued application focus by delivering Information Management solutions for next generation of Microsoft Exchange Server
LEGATO Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: LGTO), a worldwide leader in enterprise storage management software solutions and services for Information Lifecycle Management (ILM), today announced broad support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. LEGATO provides Exchange 2003 support across software solutions for information protection, automated availability and messaging management.

LEGATOs information management solutions further enhance the value that Microsoft Exchange 2003 delivers. LEGATO offers customers backup and recovery, high availability, archiving, records management and compliance functionality, said Chris Baker, group product manager for Exchange at Microsoft Corp. LEGATO solutions further increase our mutual customers ability to manage their IT infrastructures by delivering service level management, increased trust, ROI, and lower TCO.
LEGATO will implement a global go-to-market program with key systems integrators, OEMs and strategic alliance partners in support of this launch starting October 22, 2003, which includes participation in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Field Events. For more information on these events, please visit www.microsoft.com/exchange/launch.

Through its strategic relationship with Microsoft, LEGATO is delivering a complete suite of protection, availability and message management solutions for Exchange Server 2003. The following LEGATO solutions will support Exchange 2003:
* Version 4.0 of the NetWorker Module for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 delivers comprehensive information protection to customers using Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, including support for Exchange 2003s Recovery Storage Group. In addition, Version 4.0 continues to support Exchange Server 2000 for customers who require migration flexibility. Those customers can also take advantage of the recently announced NetWorker PowerSnap Module capability for Exchange 2000.

* In Q4, LEGATO will also add support for Exchange 2003 to its popular Co-StandbyServer AAdvanced (CSBS-AA) and AAM products for high availability.
* CSBS-AA will enable LEGATO customers to obtain the same benefits for uninterrupted Exchange 2003 services that CSBS-AA has been providing for Exchange 2000, SQL, IIS, Windows file & print services and other business-critical Windows applications.
* AAM will enable LEGATO customers to obtain the same benefits for disaster recovery of Exchange 2003 across wide-area distances that AAM has been providing for Exchange 2000, SQL, IIS, Windows file & print services, and other business-critical Windows applications.

* The EmailXtender (EX) suite will provide Exchange 2003 users with a comprehensive, policy-based system that automatically collects, indexes and archives email messages and attachments from the Exchange 2003 message store into a secure message archive. This allows organisations to manage email as a record of business and support regulatory obligations for record retention. LEGATOs email management suite also eases the migration from Exchange 5.5 to 2003 by reducing administrative effort and overall storage costs. In independent tests conducted at the Microsoft Partner Solutions Center (MPSC) in Redmond, Washington, EmailXtender substantially reduced the amount of time required to migrate from Exchange 5.5 to 2003 by 85 percent, realizing an overall storage savings of 70 percent.

LEGATO is delighted to deliver our information management solutions in support of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, said Derek Sanders, vice president, Microsoft alliance at LEGATO Systems, Inc. Our relationship with Microsoft is strategic to our success, and we continue to deliver open backup and recovery, high availability, archiving, records management and compliance solutions to customers who will significantly benefit from the enhanced features and benefits of Exchange Server 2003.

Advanced indexing and media management, cluster support, high speed parallelism, cross-platform tape interoperability, comprehensive NDMP support, backup to disk, tape
cloning, archive, serverless backup, and dynamic drive sharing are among key components that enable IT organizations to protect storage assets and minimize downtime.

About LEGATO Co-StandbyServer AAdvanced

LEGATO Co-StandbyServer AAdvanced (CSBS-AA) is the next generation of LEGATO Co-StandbyServer. CSBS-AA provides everything required to mirror production data between two disks, and to monitor and restart application services when failures occur; this is useful for avoiding the costly effects of system failures and to ensure business continuance. CSBS-AA embeds turn-key capabilities for Exchange 5.5 & 2000, SQL, Oracle, IIS and Windows print services.

About AAM

LEGATO AAM is designed for large-scale, heterogeneous deployments to provide automated application resource management and automated availability. In response to events and failures, AAM takes automated actions to avoid failures and to recover failed services quickly. AAM runs on Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Linux, and Windows NT/2000/2003, and supports a wide variety of heterogeneous data storage options including direct attached, NAS and SAN topologies. On Windows 2000, AAM embeds all of the capabilities described for CSBS-AA; you can upgrade from CSBS-AA to the expanded features of AAM with the change of a license key. AAM supports wide-area as well as local network communication, which enables it to monitor and automate wide-area data replication and rapid disaster recovery.
