The Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) welcomes the announcement that Dr Bronwyn Evans has been appointed as the Chair of the Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals Growth Centre by the Minister for Industry and Science, the Hon Ian Macfarlane MP.  As the peak business organisation representing manufacturers of dental products, ADIA is a strong supporter of the Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals Growth Centre.

“We are pleased that this new initiative will be headed by Dr Evans, a professional who has extensive experience in the medical technology sector,” said ADIA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Troy Williams.

Dr Evans is also Chief Executive Officer of Standards Australia.

The Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals Growth Centre is one of five of the Australian Government’s Industry Growth Centres, which will begin building new links between businesses and researchers to boost Australian industry’s international competitiveness and enhance Australia’s competitive strength.

“ADIA recognises the potential of the Industry Growth Centre initiative to enable national action on key issues such as deregulation, skills, collaboration and commercialisation. That Dr Evans will lead the Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals Growth Centre into a new era of growth and investment is a positive move,” said Mr Williams.

The $188.5 million Industry Growth Centres Initiative is a key feature of the Australian Government’s strategy to guide industry, by focussing on areas in which Australia has an edge over its international competitors.

“The Australian Government sees the importance of the medical technologies sector, which includes dental industry manufacturing, as Australia transitions from traditional labour intensive mass-volume manufacturing to higher value-added and export-focussed production.  Like the Australian Government, ADIA believes that the Industry Growth Centre Initiative will further contribute to the dental industry’s ability to grow, create jobs and operate sustainably,” Mr Williams concluded.
